Wow. I cannot believe the experience my friend and I had this morning at this place. As we walked in, a woman asked us if we could buy her a cup of coffee. We said yes, and she followed us in. As we were ordering from one woman at the counter, the manager (blonde with dreadlocks) looked straight at the woman we walked in with and said “we’ve told you before that your business isn’t welcome here.” Fine, it’s your business, ban whomever you want from the store for whatever reason a regular consumer doesn’t know. What rubbed me the wrong way was that when we let her know that we’d already offered to buy the woman coffee, she looked me dead in the eye and said “No don’t do that.”
So at this point, I’ve already paid for the coffee and ordered it, and she’s telling me what to do with the coffee that is now mine. We also ordered French onion soup with the coffee, as well as a bagel. So while we’re waiting for the food, the same manager comes up and angrily/forcefully confronts us and says, extremely patronizingly, “I’m confused..? If the manager of a place tells you not to do something why would you do it anyway?” Again, as if she has some kind of authority to tell me what to do with the coffee I purchased. Fine! Ban the woman from the store if you don’t want her business! But she wasn’t bothering anyone, and we’d already bought the coffee. I told her all of this, and she responded by holding her hands up and walking away while we were mid-sentence.
To top it off, after this encounter, the other woman came up and told us that they were out of soup for the day—at 8:45 AM. Yeah, I’m sure that was the case. I am so disgusted with everything about this place. The initial handling of the issue, how we were confronted, and how the manager seemed to lord her title over us as if she had any authority to tell us what we did with the drink after having paid for it.
Only bright side was that the bagel was pretty good, so that’s what the one...
Read moreThe new restaurant, also known as Fixins, owned by former NBA star Kevin Johnson, had every seat occupied with a diverse clientele enjoying their meals. I tried the fried chicken but was not impressed by it. I've had better tasting chicken from KFC. I later found out it was not prepared the way it is advertised in their menu. Evidently, some of the chefs do not follow the recipes and the customers' meals may not be the same depending on which evening they choose to attend. Overall, my meal was lackluster but my cocktail was interesting. It was made with a fresh Lavender sprig and Vodka. The staff all were very nice and our waitress was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Kevin was working that night and made time for a picture with us. The restaurant has an upscale vibe with modern art by a local artist on its walls all depicting scenes of a southern kitchen and it's cook. There appeared to be a courtyard that will be used for outdoor dining in the future, as it was not open for the public the evening we attended. There was four in my group and the total cost came to about $70. Despite the meal being unimpressive, I would give the restaurant another chance on my next visit to Sacramento because the night we went, Fixin's had not had it's grand opening yet and if they plan to stay in business, they will make sure the chefs get on the same page...
Read moreI almost gave this place 4 stars because the food was so good. Honestly the service here is lacking. Reading others reviews and seeing the extremely negative response from the owner in itself made me think very negatively of this place. They really need to get their act together. So initially a good location, and lots of people. Only one person taking orders which made things go by slow. I will say the girl at the register was awesome! I did hear the barista tell someone "We don't have whip cream" which is weird first of all but the way she said it caused my wife to say "she is extremely rude". We ordered the breakfast burrito and the quiche with hot chocolate and a vanilla latte. All of which were awesome! It took a long time to get and was a tad pricey but overall worth it. We were about to leave and asked someone for a box and she said she would get it and we waited and waited. Saw her being other people's food and still no box. Finally had to ask someone else. Good service makes up for a lot of other negatives. Bad service makes the good seem so small. If the food was just mediocre then they would have gotten 1 star from me. I get the impression the owner doesn't care and has no humility to speak of. If you don't care about good service come here. If I ever come back it will be because of the quiche and hope I don't have a terrible...
