Thanks to someone for posting a picture of the salt and pepper fried fish. I couldn't get it off my mind for a week. Since I didn't feel like cooking today, I stop at Sunrise Chinese Restaurant to get my fix!
It's a take out only restaurant with chairs to sit while you wait for your order. There were a few people in front of me, and it took about 15-20 minutes. I noticed several people came in to pick-up their phone orders. I'll keep that in mind the next time if I'm in a rush.
Salt and Pepper Fried Fish A tad bit more dough than I like but very good. It wasn't overly salty, super crispy and holy - the portion is huge for $16.95. They also do S&P fried chicken and shrimp.
House Chow Mein Chow Mein with cabbage, beef, chicken and shrimp. Nothing worth raving about but good.
General Tso's Chicken It's similar to orange chicken without the tangy/citrus flavor. Again, big portion and savory sauce. I ate it with Trader Joe's frozen brown rice and it hit the spot! It reminded me the days I used to work at an office in Brooklyn. We used to order Chinese food every Friday as a group and I always get General Tso's Chicken lunch special.
Solid Chinese food take-out spot. Bring cash if you can, because they charge a small fee for...
Read moreRestaurant is to-go only. It gives Seinfeld soup kitchen vibes like know what you want to order & pay. Don't ask questions. Lol! I made the mistake of asking if they had or sold Spring or Vegetable rolls. I was quickly told No as if my question was completely absurd. Not a Welcoming friendly environment but, nevertheless the food is good & that's exactly why I came. My son told me this place has been in business for years since he waa a young child and his family would order food and enjoy it often so much so that they were on a 1st name basis with the main person or owner. I love Chinese food and haven't found much good authentic Chinese Food in Sacramento. This place may change my mind. I saw a lot of different items that I look forward to trying but, I kept it simple and ordered the broccoli shrimp dish to go. I loved it. Flavor was great, portion size, and cost was all good. I had enough to eat lunch at work the next day. I will go back to try the salt & pepper items, Singapore noodles, fried rice etc. So far so good with this place. It was also a very short time to wait and my food was very...
Read moreI'm not much of a reviewer, but the food was so horrible that I had to spread the word. I used to go here all the time, years ago and prior to the ownership change. However, the last few times I've been here (within the last 10 months) it has just got worse and worse. On 06-01-2025, we ordered paper wrapped chicken, salt and pepper spare ribs, white rice, and house chow mien. The paper wrapped chicken was so old the inside wrap fused with the meat, it was a total loss, could not salvage anything. The spare ribs we're accustomed to ordering were cooked with some type of substitute fatty pork meat and deep fried with old grease, the White rice we ordered was incredibly over priced and they use cheap rice on top of that. Last, the chow main was below average in taste. We never minded that it is located in bad area but I'll just throw that in. They charge 50 cents per dime sized hot mustard which you'll get anywhere else for free. Last, but not least, don't use your credit card, they'll add 4% no matter how much...
