T & R Taste of Texas Barbeque — Restaurant in Sacramento

Went here on a Monday night - tonight - as Sandra Dee's and Negril (both of which are much nearer our home) were closed.

I can't say enough good things about this place and the owner. First of all, the servings are enormous, and the quality of meat is much higher than Sandra Dee's - on par with Momo's Meat Market. The sauce here is incredible - not one-dimensional at all, but with equal amounts of savory, sweet, acid and delicate layers of spice. There was a sort of sweet frutiness, like some sort of citrus maybe; the sauce was thick and sweet, but not cloying at all. It was some of the best real BBQ sauce I've ever had, and was the perfect complement for the meat, which was lean without being tough, and perfectly (!) cooked.

The sweet potato tater tots, caramelized with a little brown sugar and cinnamon, were one of the best sides ever. The corn and chiles were HOT and VERY SPICY and freaking delicious. The cole slaw was refreshing, not too creamy. I don't thing there was anything that could have been better about the meal.

You have to get to this place early - right after work, definitely before 7! - or he'll be sold out. Even in the torrential rain, there was a steady stream of customers coming in to pick up food for themselves and their families.

And did I mention that for $34 I took home a HUGE amount of food. Enough for 2 very hungry adults, with enough left over for 2 big lunches.

We'll be back - and I hope this place will thrive. There are several mediocre BBQ places in town, but only a few that do such good BBQ, and this is one...

Letting it be known!!! Used to be good and now you get

5 small cubes of tri tip Slice of white bread 2 small sides And 12 of Shasta soda for $19

Order was mixed up with someone else so I went back to exchange the the potato salad for my bbq beans then I got ready to eat and found 5 small pieces of tri-tip in a big box smothered in barbecue and white sliced bread covered in barbecue.

I went back the 2nd time and asked to look at the portion and was told this is what it is. It’s always been this way. Knowing that is not true, I just handed them the box and walked out without a refund. Just like everyone else I do work hard for my money but to be honest it was my fault choosing them for lunch therefore hopefully the $19 of paid could be used for the karma.

Do yourself a favor and get Tacobell instead. At least you know what you’re getting there (a stomach pain) and yes I’d rather have that instead. My family, and I will no longer come back. Very rude and disrespectful. Placed an Order through DoorDash and was contacted by restaurant staff letting us know that they were out of tri-tip. They let us know what options were a available and asked if we could go back in our order and change it to something they mentioned was available. That’s not an option with DoorDash so they cancelled the whole order. $200+ that we will have to wait 5 business days to be refunded. We placed ANOTHER order containing the items THEY TOLD US WERE AVAILABLE. Only to have the order cancelled AGAIN. To quote the individual on the phone before she hung up on me… simply “because the order was too large”. Now that’s $400+ that I don’t have access to for 5 business days. Luckily I have the money to spare but imagine if I didn’t and needed to feed my family!? They refused to put me in contact with their manager “Ronnie” and hung up on me multiple times. All around bad business and a horrible experience. I will never order...
