Cookiebird Ice Cream Bar — Restaurant in Saint Augustine

The perfect small treat after having dinner at Llama! I was obsessed with this tiny portion of ice cream. Sometimes you just need a lil snack. Chocolate soft serve with pistachio drizzle, add some chocolate chips, mmmm.

The soft serve shop had the cutest ambiance. They had some swag inside for purchase - tee shirts and such, also cute. I also got a cookie here which isn’t pictured bc I ate that first. But the cookie was very good! I love a good crisp, mildly soft cookie and it was the best of both worlds. Crispy cookie to go with the soft serve ice cream - it hit the spot.

Not long after arriving, a line out the front door started to form. You can tell it’s a genuine family friendly spot. Everyone working behind the counter was incredibly sweet, and so were the patrons waiting for their ice cream.

Not knowing this was soft serve & going off the name only, I did walk in thinking this would be more of a traditional ice cream bar with lots of flavors of regular ice cream. There is chocolate, vanilla, and a specialty flavor. I like soft serve too so, this wasn’t a bad surprise one bit. After you order one of the three flavors, you have the option to add two different styles of toppings. Either a sauce, or various dry toppings. The pistachio drizzle mixed with chocolate was heavenly. You can tell the quality is there. Since I over ate at dinner, I Really liked the option of ordering I micro sized cone. I got worried that size may only be for kids so I was really happy it’s an all age friendly size.

I hardly ever leave a less than stellar review. But after this experience and reading their rebuttals to the couple of less than stellar reviews they have, I thought that I would chance it.

The place is pretty cute. They've done a lot with the insides after what was there last. The soft serve seems to be of really good quality. However, my personal experience was soured by one of the owners' response to his own mistake.

I had never been in before and thought it was helpful that he explained the cone varieties and ice cream flavors. I thought we were going to discuss toppings afterward because he just started filling the order. I asked about the rest of the experience after he handed off the plain ice cream. He decided that his best answer should be "you should have ordered it before I made them". Please understand that, had I known that was a step I needed at an earlier time, I'd have done so. In fairness, he offered to replace that messed up order. However, the way it was presented and the embarrassment that I felt over not ordering properly, I chose not to take him up on it and just wanted out of there. Then I get a "you really going to leave like that?".

St Augustine is our second home and we have a lot of people that ask us for recommendations. My wife and I likely won't include this cute little ice cream place in our "must go" list. Try it though, this was just...

I finally got to go to Cookie bird and I am so happy that I did. I was greeted by Kate and her beautiful smile and calm disposition and I knew I was in for a real treat. After perusing the menu and a little help from Kate I decided on a Blueberry/Cinnamon bun milkshake since I would be driving. Mike was the magic milkshake man and he was awesome! I got my milkshake and started slurping and I was immediately transported to a magical land of deliciousness where my worries melted away and the world was a sweet and cinammony wonderland. Yes it was almost that good LoL . That combination of flavors just really worked well together. The shake was so good that it didn't even make it home, which made me a little sad 😢. Anyway, the whole experience was excellent and I can't wait to go back for another taste of their stuff because it's excellent. Cookiebird has a great selection of cones and cups and then shakes of course so maybe a cone next time. Whatever one I end up going with, there WILL be a next time.
