We went to Boat Drinks to kick off date night yesterday. It was our third time there. Boat Drinks has a Key West feel to it. There are two levels, each with a nice bar and dining areas. It has a modern yet comfortable ambiance. It is right in the middle of St George street and has a front balcony which provides the very best people watching in St Aug…if that is your thing. Last night, we decided to sit at the upstairs bar. They have an impressive collection of rums. As we are watching our sugar intake, we did not have any of their fun boat drinks but watched jealously as the bartenders made incredible looking drinks for other patrons. I had a landlubber which is their take on an old fashion but they use a nice sipping rum. It was delicious and included a perfectly clear ice sphere. My beautiful wife had a simple vodka and soda. We forgot to take pictures before our drinks arrives put decided to share the empty glasses to show that we enjoyed them! We also ordered food for the first time there. We ordered an appetizer of peppered shrimp. It was surprising on multiple fronts. I guess I was expecting something solid and enjoyable but it was much more. The presentation of the food was impressive. It came with fresh Cuban bread to dip in delicious sauce. There was a healthy number of shrimp and could have served as a full meal for someone. If I was not with my wife, I probably would have licked the plate. I definitely recommend boat drinks. St Augustine has a great variety of bars and restaurants but Boat Drinks feels very unique in what it offers. It is fun and I am going to classify it as casual swanky (which is technically an oxymoron?).

Spending some quality time in St. Augustine. First stop last night we had dinner and drinks at Boat Drinks. We has delicious char-broiled oysters, fried fish bites and a cheeseburger. I tried a drink called the Scuttlebutt Swizzle, a blend of funky Jamaican rum, fruit juice and hibiscus liqueur. Tammy stuck neither rum Old Fashioneds. The food was incredible as were the drinks. The star of the show however was the rum tastings. They boast one of the largest rum collections in the state. I had the very good fortune to try Haitian Clairin Cassimere unaged and aged, Australian 14 yr. Rum from Transcontinental, Holmes Cay Guyana Uitvlugt 18 year, 2014 Fiji rum and a spectacular 15 year 2005 Belize rum also courtesy of Holmes Cay. Just an incredible selection of rums to choose from. Highly recommended for rum enthusiasts.

Amazing. We stopped in because we saw Boat Drinks was recommended as one of the best cocktail bars in the area. Look, I could get into it, the spectacular RumRunner the Sea Farer's Old Fashioned. Sitting on the balcony watching the walking traffic go by. Just enjoying St Augustine. But everyone's taste is subjective. You gotta go check Boat Drinks out for yourself. We only had 2 cocktails, but they were two of the best cocktails I've had. Beach inspired drink menu, but the mixologists would make any classic cocktail you request, and these guys (guy and girl) were good. I wanted to try so many more. The drink menu is so creative and the cocktails we tried were equally tasty. My only regret is we didn't stop here until our last evening.

We drove by Boat Drinks a few times while in town, and our property manager suggested it too. During a typical summer Florida evening storm we decided the time had come to stop in. Loved that there was accessible parking. The vibe inside is fun, I felt like I had walked into a beach, tropical version of the movie “Cocktails”.

The drinks were tasty! I enjoyed a Miami Vice. I esp. loved the fun non-alcoholic options that our teens could enjoy. If you order the Cold-brew go ahead and ask for that simple syrup too, if you like it sweetened. We sampled the oysters with the delicious sauce that you could dip 45 additional loaves of bread in…seriously top notch (thanks too for our server advising us to keep the sauce for continued tasty dips!). The fish bites & chicken skewers were also quite yummy, a little too spicy for portions of the table though.

Then it was time for more, the burger caught all our eyes…we were hopeful. Listen Linda-let me tell you about the best hamburger you’ll eat in your life when you order one from BoatDrinks! This burger is going to be the gold standard to which I hold every other burger I have from now on, and well let’s be honest they’re not coming close. I had the burger all the way from the grilled onions to the finely chopped lettuce. The crispy bits of the burger with the deliciousness of the melty cheese-TOP NOTCH! Lettuce turnip the beet if you know what I’m saying…these burgers at BoatDrinks will be bringing us back again and again anytime & every time we’re back in St. John’s county. Buffett would have changed the lyrics to say “waitress I need 2 more burgers” not boat drinks if he had eaten one. Y’all have done good & right as you’ve truly created a “Cheeseburger in paradise”!

Thanks friends...

Not sure there's much worse than restaurant owners who will disrespect and disregard their customers opinions as much as the owners Rob Crabtree and/or Whitney Hobbs seem to be doing here with reviews. But here I go, I guess I'll get it next :-) We visited for the first time with friends and we were massively underwhelmed. Place was SUPER noisy inside and wasn't that busy, so that was off putting to start with. Tried the (Expensive) Charbroiled Oysters which had barely been charbroiled at all, the bottom of the Oysters were cold. Other menu items were not available because the server said they were closed the following few days so were running some items out. Certainly made us question the freshness of what we could order. Drinks were "OK" I'd say, (again pricey) and not the "wow-factor" you'd expect at all for a $15 cocktail. Lastly Service. Not sure what the owners are going for, but hip / relaxed / casual servers are fine, as long as they do a great job. Our server was cool and all that, but really didn't revisit us at all to check on things or offer extras / drinks etc. So generally disappointing experience we left hungry and thirsty. I feel they either need to lower their price to match the experience (or) improve food offerings /portions / quality and add a wow-factor of their drinks. Otherwise we won't have any interest to return. Finally, if the owners are going to be so petty in regards to their customers feedback and refuse to make adjustments, then everyone should visit Boat Drinks NOW, because my guess is they won't be...
