This place was far and away the most disgusting place I have ever attempted to stay at. I use the term "place" loosely because I am still unsure if this is a motel or a portal straight into hell itself. I say "attempted" because our visit lasted less than an hour.
What brought our trip to a close you ask? Well it could have been the multiple roaches we found on the floor within the first five minutes of our stay. It could have been the three different shower rods held together in four places with four different pieces of duct tape and attached to the ceiling with wire wrapped around a screw. But the real icing on the *hit cake was wiping down with a towel only to have one of my roommates notice what appeared to be a fresh unidentified stain that could only be closely matched to human feces. But whatever it was was not a stain but an actual substance. This towel had been used for who knows what, then folded up and put back neat and nice for us to wipe down with. Outside of the absolutely rediculously deplorable conditions, tonight marks the first time in 37 years that I showered and actually ended up dirtier than when i got in.
I never leave reviews outside of an occasional star rating. And i have no issue staying in a dated but clean motel. This place should be condemned. How it continues to operate defies logic and basic sanitation standards that the City of St Augustine is obviously not enforcing or taking seriously. After reading reviews of meth cooking, bed bugs, duct tape and more you should definately consider staying here if you want to know what its like to sleep inside of a pigs a$$. The conditions here are what I would expect in a third world country and for a rate of maybe $10 a night. The highlight of our brief adventure and exposure to multiple pathogens was when I got a full refund, packed our things and got out of dodge.
If you want to stay in a complete dump, check out something with a slightly higher rating. If you want to set a new standard for lowest possible service and also stand in awe of what can only be described as the inside of Cousin Eddies RV, check this place out. You get plenty of freebies. Wireless, bed bugs, roaches and complementary exposure to a host of communicable diseases that like this memory will...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed here for 3 days, and honestly we should have just paid the extra $350 to stay at the hotel down the road. The room smelled musty as soon as we walked in, and we could tell the ac hadn't been cleaned in a long time since it had dust and mold all over the vents and the cover. The floor looked and felt like it hadn't been swept or mopped in a couple days- the bottom of our socks turned black after 5 minutes of walking around the room! There were crumbs and sticky patches on the little table they had in there, as well as on the shelves in the fridge, and every drawer in the room had crumbs and dead ants in them. We saw so many little roaches and palm roaches we lost count of them after the second evening. And we're smokers, but we're considerate enough to bring a water bottle outside with us to use as an ashtray so we're not flicking our cigarettes all over the parking lot (they don't have any ashtrays anywhere on their property), but the second morning we were there we had the blinds cracked open to let a little sunlight in, and we watched one of the older men from the family that owns the place come over and grab the bottle we'd been using off of our windowsill, and dump it all over the hood of our car, the parking lot and the sidewalk, just to throw away the now empty bottle! He just left all the cigarette butts and gross water there on our hood and all over the ground. We ended up using the ice bucket with some hot soapy water to rinse everything because it stunk and we didn't want it to bake in in the sun all day. It was disgusting and uncalled for, and when we tried to talk to them about it they acted like they didn't know English and waved us off. We would have left and stayed somewhere else, but they wouldn't give us a refund so we stayed the last day, which thankfully didn't have any more major issues like that. We will definitely never be...

We paid for a room we left after a couple hours. Here's why...
There is a ton of renovation going on, which makes the price seem somewhat appealing, but I do not recommend staying here unless you can handle cigarette smoke saturating your things, and thin walls making every noise easy to hear.
The best thing I have to say about this motel is that the parking is free, the mini fridge was clean and possibly new, and the new floors are nice.
The list of cons: The room smelled terrible (like an ash tray or old bowling alley), even for being partially renovated. I didn't expect to be put in an unfinished room, which seems unprofessional since we were charged the same as what I assume were finished rooms. Our door was stripped down and didn't even have a number on it, making it awkward to guess which room was ours since rooms to either side were in the same boat. The door stuck, making it very hard to open and close. The smoke alarm was dangling off the wall (see pictures). There was no mirror put up in the bathroom, and nowhere to hang a hand towel. The small table is so close to the bed that it caused a very painful collision when getting up. The lamp shade by the bed was pretty beaten up, and while minor, it still looked pretty bad. There are no blackout or privacy curtains, only blinds which standing in the right place you can still see through. The worst part was noting a disgusting stain... or possibly worse, unwashed spot... on the side of the bed (see pictures).
At night when looking for your hotel, look for the sign that says Scottish Inn. You can't see the "Castillo" brand when it's lit up since it was just laid over the old sign.
Tl;dr:...
