Tubby's Pub & Grub — Restaurant in Saint Charles

This has to be the best kept secret in St. Charles. My husband kept INSISTING this place had the best steak in St. Charles. In a bowling alley??? HE. WAS. RIGHT. My strip steak was PERFECTLY cooked, had incredible marbling, had a crisp sear, delightfully seasoned, and topped with a delectable butter that made me want to lick the plate. The sides were average.

Service was top notch, with the waiter getting every request perfect, drinks refilled before we asked, and anticipating every need. Even though he'd covered everything, he still checked in multiple times to see if everything was good or if we needed anything.

I'll be honest about the ambiance: it's a bowling alley. They have cheap tables and chairs, and the decor is their sponsorship of local teams. I loved it! I definitely wanted to support a business that was so invested in their community. It doesn't try to be fancy and they don't overcharge you to pay for fancy decor.

First couple times were great. Awesome steaks and wings and apps. Tonight was pretty bad. Sat at the bar and ordered a tea and got soda then waited 30min to get our order taken as pretty much everyone else in the place got theirs taken first. About 25min later i had to take a call and left for a quieter spot. As I was going back to my seat my son met me and said what I ordered wasn't available. Sit back down and waited another 25min and finally the app comes out. No drink refills at all. Then another 10min and my son and GF get food and the server says "I was supposed to talk to you" a couple more min go by while the kids are eating and then she says we don't have what you ordered. How about x, y or z. At this point we've been here over 90min and I need to leave for an appt so I declined any of that. Server says what can I do for you. An apology for making me wait 90min for nothing would have been nice but...

I come to Tubby's at least once a week, for a meal and a few beers. The steak is the best in the area at a reasonable price, and I often come by myself and just eat at the bar. The pizza, wings, and burgers are also as good as you will find anywhere, and its a friendly, home town atmosphere. The owners are often there, and making sure everything goes well!
