Have been to Gim Ling chinese restaurant on 3 different occasions in the past month. We will never be ordering from Gim Ling ever again. We went in tonight (on our third experience here), we called at 6:04 PM, to place the order, on previous occasions the wait has been very long due to the popularity of the place (they have great food, taste, spice, and flavor) so we went to kroger before we went to pick up the food. We also went to another chinese place just down the road because i refused to give Gim Ling my business (my girlfriend loves their food, and was willing to give them another try. I was not ordering) So we made 2 stops before we actually got to Gim Ling, finally arrive and I go in to get the food.... surprise surprise when they bring up my order they once again recite Mongolian beef as my order, i said no, Mongolian chicken, she said "you ordered #25, which is beef. I said no i didn't, i dont know the combo numbers so i would've never said that! Oh and yes i said once again, because on my last trip there they did THE SAME THING, they made beef and not chicken, so i waited again for over an hour for food to be recooked. Once the food was recooked, i asked the cashier if she would just let me have the food for all the trouble i'd gone through, she immediately started asking if i was trying to rob her, as there were customers eating in and i didn't want a scene, i calmly explained that all i wanted was a discount for the trouble, we went back and forth for close to 15 minutes. Then i asked to see the manager (who happens to be the man who screwed my order last time... his name is Tim) he asked me repeatedly what he wanted me to do, i said i just want my food, he said it's right there, i said ik that, i can see it, but she's refusing to give it to me. He said "well you want to shoot me? You want to cut off my head?" I said "nooo, i never threatened you and i would never." So he went off back to the kitchen without resolving the issue or apologizing. So then the lady refused to give me my order, even after i said i'd purchase it just so i could leave, she once again refused, and then proceeded to take the customer behind me and completely ignore me. So i stood and waited, and calmly explained that i was not leaving until i got the food i paid for.... she finally gave up and started to ring up my food, without realizing, my girlfriend handed me her CC to use, then she refused because i was using a stolen credit card, i said "Hold on, she's in the car, let me get her." So she comes in, and she already knew of the problems because i was texting her the issues happening.... she came in and asked for a certain way to order, the lady says #25 is Mongolian beef, so my gf asked how do you order chicken, the woman replied that you have to specifically ask for it, which i rebutted with "we did, because we dont know your combo #'s" and she just shook her head and continued to ignore. She then proceeded to degrade me and tell me how rude i was while we were walking out. This is unfortunate because my girlfriend loves this food, and is very picky sometimes, so it's hard to find something she likes. The food flavor is great, but the customer service amounts to more than the food to me.
I witnessed, at least 3 tables get up and leave due to the ruckus from my order, then another customer came to the counter and was urging her to give me my food so i would leave because she was losing business with my confrontation happening. None of this stopped her from being the rudest person in the hospitality industry that i've ever met.
We ordered at 6:04, we did not walk out the door until 7:30, this is ridiculous and sooo un needed.
BUYER BEWARE, i do NOT recommend this place at all, the wait is long, service is terrible, and no comps given for their problems that...
Read more10/12/24 Highly disappointed in service. Phone rings and rings when open, my last visit. Today i go in person at 1:10p and doors are locked on a Saturday. Door says OPEN 1PM. I'm thinking this is now owned by someone else. 45 minute to an hour wait any given time which I can live with but opening whenever won't work. No dependable service. Someone is killing an amazing business. Seems they are short staff when they could probably just hire a phone person. I guess it's time for me to find a new amazing restaurant. Sad, because I love this place. Best curry ever! Dining room never reopened since Covid. Rest in peace Gim Ling you had a great run. 7/9/24 My usual guy has not been around. New owners? đ If so, I hope they read reviews. I'm seeking other options. The Curry is still the best ever sauce. I noticed and disappointed they no longer use celery in the curry it made the sauce perfectly balanced. Pork fried rice seems a bit more greasy but tasty. I tried to call and place an order, but it rings, and after several rings, my call is dumped. I once before had to go in and order. I won't this time. Eventually, I'll find another gem. They are now closed on Sunday and Monday. They also close for vacation. Seems I crave Chinese on the days closed. It's Tuesday, and there is no answer, maybe on vacation. Sad a beautiful dining area is still closed for eat-in dining. I certainly will be exploring my options. Sad this was The best all-around 8 years ago till resent. I'm not sure what's been going on this last year.
7/16/22 update from 11 months ago, Still the best. Wish they had dine in... Not open Mondays. My review is below 11 months ago! Corona Virus and Gim Ling is thriving. Yes, it is that good. They only have carry out. It can take up to 45 minutes after you order and worth the wait! They have slow moments, but i haven't been so lucky. My carry out was just as fresh and hot as when i dined in... Tried the mushroom steak. Tender and the best gravy ever! Curry is always the best i ever had anywhere! Almond boneless chicken tender inside, very crispy outside...clean no heavy grease. Egg rolls are not all stringy. Balanced and delish, plumb sauce freshly made...a must try! Enjoy!!!
The food was amazing! Upscale clean food! Best Curry we ever had! Sometimes there is a wait but it is well worth it and everything is fresh. Best Asian food I've ever had! Nice staff and could answer my questions. If you like good...
Read moreThe previous Gim Ling owners were delightful, and the food used to be awesome, but that was decades ago already now⌠sighâŚđ
The current owners and staff need to stop cutting corners and penny pinching and change back to the old recipes. Egg Rolls are not egg rolls when they donât have any beans sprouts in themâthey are just plain fried cabbage rolls. I paid for extra water chestnuts in my vegetable fried rice dish, and got ZERO. There were tiny bits of veggies here and there. The LoMein noodles tasted like spaghetti to me. The almond chicken tastes like fake, over-processed pressed chicken nowâLike a spongey texture. The steamed broccoli was mushy. The chicken gravy used to a clear golden brown, and now it takes like a very thick dark salty pork gravy with a very thick consistency. Donât expect any fortune cookies with carry outsâthey charge $$ for them, and forget napkins, even if you request a few. The prices are WAY too high!!! We picked up our order, and had to wait a looooong time past the 45 minutes we already waited and were told it would be ready. Found two staples in my rice, and the white rice and dinner rolls were both dried out. Iâve given up after being a customer for 50 years. They tried to fancy it up too muchâweâd rather have great food at reasonable prices in a clean restaurant. The dine-in experience is just as bad, and the management will say that youâre wrong and do nothing to make it...
