Read moreMy feelings are mixed and I hate it. The ambiance is really nice good energy beautiful sitting on the water. Staff were very welcoming, warm & friendly. The manager Tim was accommodating & very sincere $ understanding. We were seated at 2:39 our food arrived cold at 4. It was a Saturday they were crowded but everyone who was seated after us had their food and were leaving. Our waitress Maddy while not rude was not very engaging & just didn’t seem too enthused by our presence. It started when my friend asked about flavored lemonades the response was “I am not sure but I could probably add something to flavor it” instead of “let me ask if or what flavors we have” my friend patiently asked “could you please inquire”. Maddy smiled & said ok came back & announced Strawberry lemonade was available & explained she was still new & apologized. Having waited tables and bar tended and cleaned hotel rooms through college I am ALWAYS extremely understanding, patient & VERY generous in tipping service staff. I also will not dine with those who are demanding inconsiderate, rude or poor tippers. That said this experience tested my desire to just enjoy the view & atmosphere. When my friend asked for the Maurice Salad but explained she doesn’t eat pork & asked if she could substitute the ham with corned beef since there was a Rueben on the menu. Maddy stated rather impatiently “you can just ask for more turkey” my friend stated she’d prefer the corned beef if were possible she’d pay an up charge. Maddy stated she didn’t know if the kitchen could do that my friend asked “could you please ask” this seemed to annoy the waitress who kept a smile that seemed forced & condescending. She turned& left took a while before coming back to announce they can’t do it they have things prepared in advance & can’t accommodate. My friend then decided to order fish instead. She took our order returned once to tell us our order was next up…we sat having drinks as we watched everyone else’s food arrive. Maddy seemed to avoid us. Finally our food arrived it was cold we both suspected it had been sitting ready all the while and Ms. Maddy either over looked it or just made her other diners a priority over us. My friend complained her fish was not good. My food tasted fine but wasn’t hot or even warm. The manager Tim was very pleasant & warm. I don’t know where things went wrong with our waitress but the waitress can make or break your dinning experience and she made NO effort to make our 1st time dinning here one that might encourage repeat business. After leaving my daughter commented that she’s wanted to visit for a while I just told her well it’s beautiful great atmosphere great crowd the drinks were perfect (that’s saying ALOT from a former bar tender) and management is personable. But I advised her DO NOT sit in Maddy’s section until she gains a little more experience. My final notice is the rest room is a tad bit on the ripe side it was clean just had a bit of a stench. Overall I enjoyed the atmosphere & i am inclined to dine here again for drinks & atmosphere. Oh lastly they make their own potato chips they’re very good...
Read moreWe have been coming here for some time now and after our most recent visit, I don't think we will be back anytime soon. The best way to describe Mike's is that it is a consistently inconsistent restaurant with nice scenic views. It's a shame, because there are not very many good places on the Nautical Mile these days. They count on people coming in and coming back to be by the water and then feel like they can get away skimping on everything else.
While I understand change is sometimes needed (with the menu and/or decor) these changes need to be calculated and weighed out to make sure they will benefit the business. An example of a bad change is that Mike's removed one of their biggest selling items from their menu, the Gravy Fries (which essentially is Poutine). This makes zero sense! Out of 20 guests dining there, I would have to say well over half of them ordered this dish as either an appetizer or a side item. Why eliminate a best seller and in turn alienate your customers? I personally know multiple people who have stated they won't be back because of this.
Continuing with change, they recently added a rooftop bar/deck area which is a good thing, but they were so focused on that they let the rest of the place go down the drain. Portions got smaller and food quality dropped. Their Lobster Rolls used to be massive and now they are very dinky and have very little actual lobster in them. My father-in-law had one the other day and it was mainly celery and other filler.
Food items, although rang up in the system and sent to the kitchen will sometimes never show up. Oh, and don't even think about customizing anything. Since they nixed the Gravy Fries I asked for a side of regular Fries with my meal and asked if they could give me a cup of cheese to go with it (that they offer with their Pretzel Bites) and I was told shortly after by the waitress that the Chef said he refused to adhere to my request because they were too busy for customizations.
Really? You serious here bro? You are too busy to take 10 seconds to fill a little cup with liquid cheese that you already have made for other menu items? This left me furious. It was no fault of the waitress, she was a sweetheart (almost all of the ladies there are) and when she came back she gave me a wink and thumbs up and said she would take care of it and make sure I got the side of cheese. Long story short, I got the cheese, but never got the fries. This was a SMH moment if there ever was one. We also didn't get the chips that come with the Lobster Roll my father-in-law ordered.
We spoke to the Manager and he apologized and took the missing items off the bill, but blamed the problems on the fact the kitchen got unexpectedly slammed and were unable to keep track of everything. It really wasn't unexpected as it was Fathers Day and they were well aware it would be busy. Also the place is typically that busy no matter what especially when the weather is nice. This was just an excuse to try and place the blame elsewhere.
If we do ever decide to go back it will only be for drinks and maybe apps. As far as anything else, we are done for...
