I've been taking my family to the Frederick Inn for several years now and I will continue to go back for several reasons.
First off, the food is a combination of classic home-cooking dishes with many different steaks, seafood, chicken and pork dishes to choose from. My wife especially likes the bone-in prime rib served at the Frederick Inn. She always orders the au jus, and horseradish creamy and raw with her meal. It's also available all week long, when some other restaurants in St Joseph only have prime rib available on the weekends.
The customer service is top notch. The team at the restaurant seems interested in learning about who you are and they welcome you when you return. I love that about coming here. I say team, because they act like a team when I'm there. I've also learned some of the staff members and some of the servers have worked there for 12, 15, & 17 years. What does that say about the owners/managers? Keep it coming!
The food is amazing! You go can go to the salad bar, but I highly recommend the spinach salad instead. I love ordering the 12oz strip steak medium rare with fries. Steak and frites! Steak is always cooked perfect. I would also try to save room for dessert. It's super good. Get yourself a slice of homemade pie or share one before going home. If you get too full, then take a slice home. We do that sometimes.
It's usually easy to get a seat at the Frederick Inn if you go early or late. If you go during the busy dinner and lunch mealtimes, be ready to have a reservation. That's my experience.
Parking is super simple with parking available all around the restaurant and on the street in front. On the weekends, you'll see the employee's cars double-parked to make more room for customers.
There are not a lot of TVs and you will not find beer on draft. It's more of a place to hang out and talk with who you brought for dinner and also meet others. As far as the draft beer is concerned, I've heard from the owner that there's not enough room in the basement below the bar for housing kegs.
I would like to shout out to the staff members that I've come to absolutely love; Amber, Annette, Becky, Julia, Tina, Kathy & Monte. Keep up the good work...
Read moreI have eaten there over the years at least 25 times for lunch and dinner. Only once have I been a little disappointed when the food was luke warm. The other 24 visits were 5 stars for food, service, and staff. I would stay with their specialties rather than try to order something they don't excel in. Some people rave about their steaks and prime rib but in my opinion they are a little tough, and stringy. They have the best Spinach Salad on the planet. I have always recommended this restaurant as the best homecooking in St Joe for food, prices, and service. Some staff have been there more than 20 years. Stable. Consistent. However, last night was different. Full moon I guess. I took a friend to dinner. I visit twice a year from Denver. Always look forward to a meal here. My friend and I are familiar with the two staff that served us. Everything was fine for us, the food, drink, staff, etc. We ordered at 810 pm with a request to put the order in about 820 pm. That was done. Out came the spinach salad and french onion soup great as always. Finished just in time for the main entree hamburger steak with mushroom gravy, potato, and swiss cheese. Cooked med.-well just as ordered. Everything was good. Fun, laughs, perfect. Until one 15 second flub at 920 pm. The owner Amber M. I think it was, came up to us with a snarl and said, "when the kitchen staff is done, the kitchen is closed, and that means we are closed. You two must leave." My friend had his "doggie bag" and we were probably leaving in a few minutes anyway. This gal bought the restaurant 2 years ago and with that kind of attitude is running people off. The lady before her ran the place for 20 years with good customer repoire. May not forgive this incident. We had just spent $70+ in the last 1 hr. 15 mins. Left unhappy. May not be back or recommend, full...
Read moreWe were visiting from out of town. We found this place by Googling restaurants. All the great reviews won us over and we are so glad we found this gem! There is free parking out front or you can park in the attached parking lot. Very convenient! We went there for an early dinner on a Tuesday evening. It was very busy even at 5:45 pm, but we still got seated very fast. The server was excellent and answered all our questions. The atmosphere reminded me of an old supper club. The salad bar was excellent; everything was fresh and delicious! The chicken noodle soup was fabulous! My friend ordered fish and fried potatoes. She said it was great! My other friend and I ordered steaks. They were done perfectly, just like we ordered. We had a basket of homemade rolls and cinnamon rolls, but couldn’t eat so we took home and had for breakfast. Great even the next day. We wanted to order dessert but we were too full! Everything was just perfect. I cannot recommend this place more. If you are in St.Joseph; you must eat here. I recommend getting a...
