A friend had said this is an Authentic HALAL place.
I dont believe it is.... I contacted the owner, Nihari is NEVER SERVED AS A MENU ITEM. Nihari should be a STAPLE DISH (they say they do it for catering, but they could also make burgers and fries for catering too, or hot dogs, or peas and potatoes...so it means nothing)
This is just a Basic typical nothing-special place to get easy-made pre-made spiced curries...that you can make yourself at home from pre-packaged shan or Ahmed packages.
I had hopes, this place was legit.... Nihari doesnt take long at all. Owners of this place, are in the business to make fast money and not serve high quality food. Or accomodate muslim customers...
I ordered a basic-meal here (a few months ago) and talked to the person serving about their lack of a heart-felt menu...they didn't care...they probably forgot the conversation... Atleast have Nihari as a menu option during Ramadan....but nope! The food was bland
Response from the owner will probably be a defense that I've never been here and only ever made a call....owners here just care about a quick buck...no heart in the food served. Came here 3 times in the last year hoping for a change in quality and menu items.. ordered food and tipped.
Its clear this is just a BASIC INDIAN restuarant, among hundreds in Minnesota...
The food industry is suffering (i work in it), but its sad when a place just serves cheap menu items to make easy money....
Super sad.
Wont be returning. Zero heart in the...
Read moreOK, I have never written a restaurant review before as I think most restaurants are OK but not great. Skyway Masala is a notable exception to my general rule. This is a takeout place on the skyway system in downtown St. Paul. Essentially a lunch joint. You would think the food would be OK, but nothing special. That couldn't be further from the truth. This is top-notch, sitdown quality, Indian food and it's fantastic Indian food. The kind you would expect to get in a high end restaurant. Start with the appetizers. They are unusual and very interesting. I recommend the seekh kebabs as I like it a little spicy. These things are delicious and addictive. Or try any chicken dish as they are all fantastic (so far we have tried the Mango Chicken, Masala Chicken, and Steamed Baked chicken). Beautifully seasoned basmati rice and great chapati (I haven't tried the naan yet, but soon). And the owner is very friendly and obviously very proud of the product that he puts out; justifiably so. And the prices are very reasonable considering what you get. If you don't know what something is, just ask. You'll get an education and find new...
Read moreVery entertaining owner with excellent service! We always ALWAYS tip him for his service. This is the best indian food I've ever tasted, It tastes like he uses REAL spices and seasonings like from india. He is very enthusiastic, always telling me how he makes everything from his own recipes. I just happened to be in st paul dmv one day getting a handicap permit after an injury to my knee. I live in Bloomington but I've been here twice! This is the only place I will go to for great indian food! P.s. he is the only worker but still has so much passion for his cooking and...
