Truly one of the best theater experiences! Small, intimate, every seat is a good seat! Great facility. Clean inside and out including the bathrooms. Convenient access to free or nominal cost parking and public transportation. They always do a nice job here, volunteers, performers, everyone. Nice hometown feeling. Great shows, take one in, you won't regret it. One of St. Paul's gems!

Intimate theater. All seats are pretty good. Perhaps avoid the balcony near stage front as the lines can be limited. Performances are based on actual Minnesota historical events/persons. The local nature of the productions means the audience is knowledgeable and engaged. Reccomend this experience.

One of the best theaters in the Twin Cities and a great way to learn about Minnesota history and have fun at the same time! The current production of Whoa Nellie is a blast! Don’t miss it!

We have been long time supporters/ticket holders of this great venue. We attended the last week of River Road Boogie - Augie Garcia Story. It was a great show - maybe the best we have seen!

But with the great history of brewing beer in St. Paul (see StarTrib June 13, 2015 Variety Section), we were so disappointed that the theatre's bar was supplied with beers from anywhere BUT Minnesota. We love our Minnesota beers - from Hamm's; to Grain Belt; to Surly; to Summit; and dozens of others. And, we have actually brewed our own at St. Paul's Vinepark Brewing Co.

With such history (see another book "Minnesota - Land of 10,000 Beers), would it be too much to ask that your provide offer the wonderful beers of Minnesota???

Our five star rating goes to the productions - but none for the...

After reading about it for years, I finally was able to attend a performance of "A Servants' Christmas" at the History Theatre. I understand this was perhaps their 4th or 5th version of a play-turned-musical that they created sometime ago. The story was well written, and well told. The actors' characters were very believable, and each had their fair share of lines that ranged from comedic to thoughtful to profound. The set served the story, but the rotating stage was underutilized, serving only as a curtain to hide the interior set until the opening big reveal, then sitting passively fixed in place for the entire show. This represented (to me at least) a larger-than-needed spend of the production's budget on a one-and-done device that dud nit advance the plot or help...

Performances here are usually outstanding, which is why we attend. That said, they would benefit greatly from some professional consultation on "user experience" in terms of how they manage the commons space immediately outside the theater (where people hang out when not in the theater). For instance, serving beverages closer to the entrance creates unnecessary congestion that makes it very difficult for patrons of any ability (let alone those with less mobility) to make their way through the crowd. Some additional seating options would also help, further from the main entrance to encourage patrons to congregate...
