First issue we encountered when we pulled up to the hotel was parking. No information was provided to me in regards to parking when I made my dinner reservations. As a first time visitor to this hotel I had no idea parking would be so difficult. After circling the hotel a couple of times and then parking in a lot across the street to try to call the hotel to find out about parking not one person answered the phone. I tried reservations, I tried the restaurant, I tried the operator. No one answered. I finally decided to pull up to the circle drive where I guess the lobby would be and I found out we could only valet. At $33 per car. A very high price especially if you’re just going there for dinner. No validation on parking even if you were having dinner on the property. Once we arrived at the restaurant, I thought we would have a waterfront view, there was no water view and I was greatly disappointed. Once seated, the chairs we sat on were wood chairs and they were uncomfortable, no one ever offered us a cushion which I discovered later several of the other tables with wood chairs had cushions. Food was average. Service was average. My expectations of a great dinner and great service and great view and great seating we’re not met. As we left we stopped to use the restroom paper towels were on the floor outside and inside the restroom. I was not impressed with the Don Caesar hotel or the...
Read moreWe left hungry. We've been visiting the Don Cesar for 20 years. The new owners have ruined what was once a historical, beautiful and fun place for our family and friends. Every where you look now, you see their bottom line. My husband and I had dinner last night and ordered a few items to accompany a $41.00 grouper main dish. The fish was old, small, discolored and overcooked. Any chef could see the fish was bad before and after cooking. Our server asked if he could get us anything else, but we were so disappointed in the experience, we decided to leave. We found it comical that after everything our server asked us if we wanted to see the dessert menu. At minimum, a manager should have come to the table and offered an apology and a complimentary dessert or beverage. That never happened. Remember the Don Cesar is now about the obvious focus on revenue, not quality or service. We walked upstairs to one of our favorite classy bars in St. Pete to find the long-stunning wood bar and chandeliers gone. Replaced with non-de-script, poor interior design. All we can say, is don't waste your money or time. There are many other great restaurants and resorts in...
Read moreI was excited for Society table to reopen. We reserved a table for Sunday thought that it could be packed. But we were so disappointed with all dishes we ordered. The menu is limited, which is ok because they could do well with what they have. Food was way below expectation for the hotel; Burger was so dry and too well done (the waitress didn’t ask how I wanted the meat to be cooked), Cuban was so mushy and too salty too eat and needed to be returned, fish taco was just ok nothing special. I didn’t bother to take any pictures as the presentations were so plain looking, not appetizingly presented.
The restaurant might look nicer at night but for lunch the ambient is plain, simple, lean to the boring side. The restaurant was so empty on Sunday brunch/lunch; only 4 tables with customers. The service was very slow; so many waitress walking around doing different roles but not there when we needed. This might explain why there were not many customers. The restaurant lives off its old reputation.
I really hope the restaurant improves and...
