I placed a HUGE order for our team of nurses and anesthetists here at St. Anthony's Hospital and we tossed it onto Grumpy Gringo's plate last minute and without notice. Everyone had complex orders with specific requests, and I was sure that I would get a phone call to cancel our order shortly after placing it online through their website. Surely, we should have sent it through catering!?
Fortunately for my hungry team, they did not cancel our request and, when we arrived to pick up, Grumpy Gringo was clearly up to the task! Our order was hot and fresh and, once we managed to figure out what was what, everyone absolutely RAVED about the food. Though there were a few errors, it was amazing we got any food at all considering the efforts that must have been required with such a last minute and complex order.
Additionally, and what REALLY surprised me, was that after we had picked up our order, a very nice team member named "Hector" called to follow up. Though we did have a couple comments to share regarding the order, he was incredibly king and apologetic and offered suggestion for any future orders to help him better accommodate our team better. We have ordered from a number of places in the area - nearly weekly - and nobody ever follows up following our large, last-minute requests and this was just very kind a thoughtful.
In the future, we will try to use the catering services at Grumpy Gringo. A bunch of the team was saying how they were going to stop by there more in their personal outings, too. Despite the minor errors, I am sure my team will again be looking to order from them, and I will happily call Hector and work directly through him.
UPDATE - We placed another large order and this time I spoke to Hector directly. Just as promised, he was able to help make sure everything was correct and labeled clearly. We will continue to order from Grumpy Gringo for our group in the future. The team absolutely loves their food, and, with Hector's help, everything was perfect. ...
Read moreWalked into Grumpy Gringos in St. Pete already irritated, too much sun, too many people smiling at me for no reason. I was ready to grumble about the service, nitpick the menu, and declare the chips too salty. Instead, I was blindsided by a burrito that might actually be my new favorite. And trust me, I don’t like admitting favorites.
The Burrito Gringo with chipotle chicken and refried beans came out looking less like a meal and more like a dare. The thing is massive. Rolled so tight it could survive an earthquake—and then smothered (because apparently restraint isn’t on the menu here) with molten white queso and this smooth green avocado sauce. I thought it would be overkill. I was wrong. Every bite was balanced: smoky chicken, creamy beans, fluffy rice, and just enough tang from the sauce to keep it from feeling too heavy.
Yes, it’s messy. Yes, you’ll probably need extra napkins. But let me tell you, every drop of queso and avocado sauce that tried to escape onto the plate ended up being scooped right back up, because nothing this good should go to waste.
The staff? Friendly. Too friendly for my taste, if we’re being honest, but that’s not their fault, I came in determined to be a grump. Brittney turned me right around with the best dang margarita I've had.
The atmosphere? Fun, lively, maybe even too lively for someone who likes to complain, but it fits the food perfectly.
So here’s my verdict: Grumpy Gringos somehow cracked the code on making an affordable burrito that's so delicious that it can shut me up anytime, and that’s saying something. If you’re anywhere near St. Pete, get the Burrito Gringo. Just know you might end up smiling in spite...
Read moreHusband and have came here many times over the yrs always a great meal awesome drinks but today was a little different as we came with mother in-law and she wanted her orange soda and we just had beer in our car we just had in a cooler with water and sparkling water also Gatorade but as we had it I figured drink a can with our food since we are sitting outside and had several people sitting and drinking outside with us. Well this she/he came outside said to us no drinking pointing to our cans and repeatedly said it as if we didn’t understand and reached over our food and my mother in-law and threw it in the garbage in front of us without having to respond to us as we were telling her we would bring it into the car cooler - she said I don’t care no it’s illegal to have alcohol outside instead of saying only if you brought it from us you can drink it. It was about how she went about the situation that was so rude. It was then that I went to my car and got water and sparking flavored water and another person came to see if we had beer after 15 minutes of eating, well that’s when my husband said something and was pissed didn’t know you will be watched to what you drink - asked to speak to manager to be told hector was not in today. The waitress was polite as we explained what this girl\boy did and even said it was not right how she went about it. Grown adults deserve respect and you have to give it...
