Let me start by saying Plate in downtown St. Pete isn’t just a sushi bar—it’s a full-blown flavor amusement park with a tapas passport and a cocktail that might flirt with you if you make eye contact too long.
The "Open Sesame" cocktail? It’s like your Old Fashioned took a vacation to Tokyo and came back with a plum wine addiction and a mysterious backstory. That drink changed me. I now meditate and own a bonsai.
We went full send on small plates like we were tapas influencers. Cheesy Tater Tots, crispy crab bites, spicy shrimp dumplings—I blacked out somewhere between the duck bun and the lamb lollipop and woke up whispering “yakitori gizzard” like it was a spell. The beef tongue was a bold choice, and I gotta say, it’s got more charisma than most people I’ve dated.
Then the sushi hit the table. Bam. Spicy tuna roll, snow crab roll, blue crab roll—basically every crustacean who ever dared the ocean ended up on our plate, and they were deliciously honored.
And don’t sleep on the warm bowls. I got the pork belly and it was like a spa day for my soul. It made me question my life choices for not eating here sooner.
Dessert? Mango sticky rice. It’s simple. It's elegant. It’s probably the dessert they serve in heaven's break room.
Service was amazing. The vibe is downtown chill with just enough bougie flair to make you feel like you’re cooler than you are. 10/10 would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys flavor explosions, beautiful plating, and saying "yakitori" out loud as much as possible.
I’ll be back. Possibly tomorrow. Definitely in...
Read moreSo happy I caught Plate for the soft launch, so I could luxuriate in every single one of these robust flavors. It was truly a 9.5/10 experience for me and I’ll definitely be back. I love tapas so this place immediately caught my eye, and what a clever, unique concept! Such a thoughtful blend of flavors, cuisines and cultures. I’m still thinking about the curry duck empanada.
My cocktail — the minted empress — was a true delight: well-balanced, bright and memorable. It was like a Mojito’s classy older cousin. 10/10!!! It was a gentle sweet, with a pop and strong mint flavors.
The Mexican roll was so fresh - some of the best sushi I've had in St Pete. The pork belly Yakitori was great. The mussels base was so rich and savory with a a strong taste of coconut in the best way. The bread was like a crispy cloud — I needed more to keep soaking up that delicious base! Would recommend! A constructive criticism I’ll offer is that the mussels needed a spoon (again, the sauce was too good!) and a spare plate for shells, but the flavor was fireee and nailed the Thai flavor so well. The crab rice was good, but didn’t steal the show. The pork belly bao bun was a low point for me, unfortunately. The bun disintegrated shortly after it came to my table, but the meat and flavors were absolutely still on point.
I absolutely love the vibe here: the lighting is right, the decor is sleek and gorgeous, the art is amazing! Seriously, I can't remember the last time I was this moved by restaurant art.
Anyway, definitely go here. I love what they’re bringing...
Read moreLovely space, great visual aesthetic and ambience. Service attentive, helpful, and professional. Manager took time to come by and check in on us.
The menu is extensive. Traditional sushi items paired with a long list of shareable small plates. Plates range in price from $8 (average) to $14 on the high end (only a few plates at the high end). For lunch, two of us ordered 5 plates which was ample. The quality of the food, especially at that price point, was impressive.
We had the crispy tuna stack - total flavor bomb. Spicy shrimp potstickers - great dough, fragrant filling. Curry mussels - exceptional. Pork belly buns - little pillows of deliciousness. Mexican roll - good, fairly standard.
We each ordered a mocktail. We got out the door for about $60, tax and tip included....
