After reading past reviews critical of the wait times, I timed our take out order.
We walked into a chaotic packed house on this Saturday evening. We were prepared for an hour wait time.
We were greeted and our order was taken right when we walked in.
10 minutes and 29 seconds from end of order to food in hand.
I watched another family be seated and walk out in this time.... Be patient. It is worth it.
If your are looking for a fast meal off of I-44 avoid this place. There is a Casey's Pizza two doors down for some fast cheap food.
If you are looking for the best, unique food in the area come to this place.
I had the blackberry chicken. 5 full wings in a spicy sauce. Along with okra and mac/cheese for the sides.
The chicken was a great take on fried chicken I had never experienced. The mac and cheese had some spice and processed cheese taste. There was nothing that stood out about the okra.
Price point is higher than I expected.
Atmosphere was great.
The food was still piping hot after about a 10 minute drive.
There menu changes on a weekly basis. I would love to have something like this closer to home.
Edit: We went back the next day for lunch take out. The stand out of the meal was the ox tail. The greasy , fatty, buttery pieces of beef melted in my mouth. First time I had oxtail, reminded me of beef bone marrow, one of my favorite dishes. The baked turkey wings were super tender. Sides of black eyed peas, fried corn, sweet potatoes and corn bread were all very good. Everything had some spice to it.
No crowd at lunch. Similar great service as our first visit. It took just under 20 minutes from order to getting the food. Front end person offered a drink while we waited, and I...
Read moreHoney chile this meal was delicious. Definitely dine here if you’re in the area! You can check their hours and menu on Facebook.
First, I’ll talk about the restaurant decor. The colors were welcoming, I love the tables and family portraits. The server was friendly and attentive.
Second, the food. Everything is made to order and the wait for the food was worth it! We shared the Birria Tacos and Blueberry Chicken Wings. We were surprised and happy by the size of the tacos. Perfect amount of meat and cheese filling. The consommé was delicious and hearty. Cilantro lime rice and red beans savory, tart, yummy. I also ordered a corn on the cob on the side, worth it. The blueberry wings (loved!) were something new to us and I can’t describe how it tasted, but that you must try it if it’s on the menu (the menu changes daily, which I love). The Mac and cheese and fried okra were also a hit. The cornbread was soft, delicious and not too dense. They have so many good options for desserts that they bake themselves. We took the Orange Tres Leches and Toffee pudding home with us.
Next we will return to try the oxtail and...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I met mid point between Springfield and St. Louis for lunch date on Saturday September 28 2019 . We picked this restaurant base on online reviews and menu. The restuarant was not very noticeable when we drave there, we actually passed it thinking it was an abandon building. It is located in what appears to be an old diary queen building because there was an old faded diary queen sigh hanging in front of the building. We walked up to the building around 2pm on a Saturday and there was a sign posted on the door saying they are close and will reopen Sunday. I double check their hours online and it shows that they are open till 7pm Saturday. I even called because we were so looking forward to eating there but I got an answering machine saying they are either away from the phone or busy. It seems like there should be a better way to run a business especially if you are reaching beyond the locals. It was very disappointing. Be sure to call and make sure they are open before you make a trip there .my boy friend really wanted to try it so maybe we will try again...
