We are visiting Belton and Johnny’s Steakhouse was recommended to us, so we tried it out on a Thursday evening. We were seated quickly, although the “stalk a table” style seating isn’t my preference, it worked efficiently and we didn’t wait long. The servers were friendly in helping us grab a table and clean the off quickly. We were quickly asked our drink order although alcohol and returning to take our menu order were a long wait. My margarita was excellent when it arrived. Had just a little ice but the flavor was great. Appetizers were very good, but arrived just before our food and we had to ask for them multiple times. We had the brisket stuffed jalopenos which were awesome and queso and salsa which were solid. Three of the six at our table ordered steaks, it’s a steakhouse, right? None of the three were cooked properly. Two were ordered medium and one was ordered medium rare. Two were delivered well done (maybe on the verge of medium well) and one was rare. I’ve never in my life sent a steak back to the kitchen. I order medium, I can eat medium rare and medium well to well done (although well done is bordering ruining a steak) but I can’t eat a rare steak. My steak was rare and cold. On the verge of they “lopped the horns off and tossed it on the plate.” So I sent it back (which I have never done in my life). A good steakhouse would fire me another steak. My cut steak came back to me about the time my table was done eating, charred and tasting funny (possibly the oil they put on it to keep it from getting dry). I left half of it on the plate. It wasn’t worth eating at that point to me. I won’t be back next time we have a show in Belton. If you come, I suggest you try the BBQ. This place has great reviews but they missed the mark with us. Slow service, and poorly done steaks. The brisket in the Jalopenos was excellent so I wish I’d gotten that...
Read moreI don't know what happened on this particular visit. We take our seat and the menus are dropped off, we don't see the server for another 15 minutes. We order our food and it takes around another 15 minutes to arrive. The 1lb of brisket was not good, 1/2" cuts, very tough and a very thin smoke ring. Granted some people like a thicker cut, but the meat should still be very tender if it was cooked correctly; this was comparable to a store bought ham in texture. The potato salad was bad, and I mean bad. It tasted like they added pumpkin spice or some other off flavor and the potato in it was almost of a mashed consistency; I love potato salad, I did not love theirs.
All that being said, the mac and cheese was on point, cheesy creamy yumminess. This was one of the best mac and cheeses I have eaten at a BBQ joint, it was like a cheddar volcano exploded in my face! The waitress let us swap out the yuck potato salad for another container of mac and we devoured it. The homestyle bread was good too, but I am not really a fan of the bread and brisket movement we see everywhere. Took the bread home, gave it to the deer.
I know this establishment can do better because I visit it annually and I am usually not dissatisfied with their product. Just be wary in BBQ establishments, if the BBQ is rubbish that day, don't be afraid to tell them. The price for BBQ in Texas has gone through the roof so the quality of the food should as well. I don't care how long it was smoked, if you smoked...
Read moreBought tickets to Gary Allen for my teens first concert. Planned to dine INSIDE then head out back for the show. We waited in line to sign up to get a table 20 minutes. Then waited an hour to get a table. We had requested inside and they put us on patio. It was not terrible because of fans. Waitress was on high speed and we tried to get our orders in fast. I ordered a frozen Pina Colada. When it came it was in a tiny adorable jar like mug. The taste was excellent. But then I kept getting slivers of something as I sipped. After three I took a closer look and it was pieces of glass. I showed my husband and he showed it to the waitress. She immediately turned and then came back to say the bartender said she didn't have time to make a new one. We didn't ask for it. We were trying to address the glass. She left came back with another drink. Told me the bartender said it was probably the straw. We tried to tell her no and she snapped that she was not arguing and left. I sipped on new drink. Again taste was great. Half way down. More glass. I was done. Table next to ours a woman has piece of glass found this size of silver dollar at bottom of her drink. I never heard from a manager or anything. I didn't drink any more. We were there waiting for food and hour already. We just wanted to eat. The food was large portioned and tasted wonderful. But fear of service and glass I don't think we will eat...
