The interior is very nice. Really good ambiance. With that said I have some complaints.
Let's start with the food.
The new York strip. $43 it was not fresh. You can tell it's been sitting around for a while based on the flavor of the meat. The baked potato was dry, stale and chewy. The broccoli tasted of burnt grease. With that said the steak surprisingly was cooked to temp but at best subpar.
The grilled shrimp pasta was awful for $29. This is as close to entry level Italian as it gets similar to cheap $10 pasta dish at most hole in the walls. The shrimp was way over cooked having that rubber texture, funk and metallic taste. The pasta was cooked correctly but the sauce was drenched in oil and grease which caused the sauce to separate giving it a chucky sandy feel.
The Goat Cheese Marconi and Cheese was probably the best part of the food. Could not taste the goat cheese at all but was decent to eat. Creamy, cheesy and over all not bad but wasn't what was advertised.
The best thing from the whole meal was the bottle of wine. At least they couldn't mess that up accept for the waitress fumbling around mumbling obscenities under her breath about it.
The staff....
The staff was unpleasant and under trained. The waitress didn't know how to take an order as she would listen to one item being ordered then run off thinking that was it. She also didn't know how to work a wine bottle. Pointing towards a lack or training. She would get frustrated mumble words under her breath and disappeare as she tried to figure out how to cork a bottle.
When management approached to ask how everything was she didn't like the response. Got instantly irritated and said I will discount the meal then stormed off. Never did she ever come back to try to deal with the situation in a professional manner. I had to approach her afterwards to explain to her we were not looking for a discount as we were just expressing our disappointment and expected more. When trying to explain myself the thing that stuck me as awful was her expressing how she didn't care. Which says a lot about the establishment and the people they hire.
Sadly we hoped for much better experience based on the location, food and especially the prices. If we would have known how bad it was we would have just went to Olive Garden. 🫒
Look at my photos and ask yourself if this is a $140 meal. Just saying.
Until this place can turn around save yourself the disappointment and go to Bartons or...
Read moreWe went the Stagecoach Inn Restaurant for dinner. The hostess seated us and presented the dinner menu, bar menu and happy hour drink menu. One of the Happy Hour Drink options was a “Classic Old Fashioned”, which I asked for by that specific name while pointing to it on the happy hour menu. (Most service is really lacking these days so I almost always point the menu item I want to increase my odds of getting what I am asking for.) The server then asked me what kind of bourbon I wanted, and I replied, “oh, I am surprised I get a choice on the happy hour? but I will take Crown Royal.” When it was time for the check, I noticed that I was charged DOUBLE the happy hour price for the old fashioned and when I pointed that out to the server, he responded saying that I asked for Crown Royal. I then said, “I asked for the happy our classic old fashioned and YOU ASKED asked me which liquor I wanted.” He then left and returned with the bartender that proceeded to TELL me exactly how I was wrong and what she thought I did not understand, she did not ask me any questions. She merely said to me, “I have already been explained your point of view”. Wow. It’s no wonder they had to change the name of the hotel after all the bad reviews and get a new hotel management company. When I asked her if I could tell her what happened she repeated the same story about why did not need to hear what I had to say. I told her I would be ready to pay when she heard my point of view. From my point of view this is a fast-food style bait and switch. Why would they offer a happy hour old fashioned if the customer cannot actually order it?! I suppose the answer is that most people will pay double without confronting the scam. Nice atmosphere, fair prices, mediocre food, server was ok but needs to learn the menu, unacceptable customer service. As a lifelong resident of Bell County and a citizen of Salado, it will hard for me to return here. The correct thing would have been to first off, LISTEN to the customer (that is the person with the money), and then if you are going to offer the credit, don't be an A** about it, just take the time to explain to the server the normal purpose of the...
Read moreThe hotel is super cute and charming. The staff is sweet and they try to be helpful. Location is great. I love Salado and I’m happy to see local business thrive. I was so excited for the renovations of Stagecoach/Shady Villa and was looking forward to staying here. Here’s what you need to know:
Accommodations- comfortable bed, but zero storage except for one tiny shelf under the biggest safe I’ve ever seen. There’s one tiny luggage rack so all of our suitcases were on the floor. Even in the bathroom, there’s nowhere to put your toiletries. Hot water runs out 2 minutes after you start your shower. Forget multiple people taking a shower one after another. This sucks specially if you have children.
The Pool - the Pool area is cute but geezzz…mosquito infestation on steroids alert!!!! Most hotels treat for mosquitos around the pools and common areas, NOT HERE! Make sure to pack repellent. There are only two measly Sun shades for the whole pool area. The pool is dirty and has grass from the surrounding gardens which are beautiful and expected but they could have someone once in a while check the pool and clean out grass debris.
FOOD - OMG save your stomach and DO NOT EAT HERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. I just don’t have worlds to describe how terrible food is here.
Management- please get it together. The hotel has sooooo much potential. Improvements are not super expensive or unattainable. Get a new chef and new cooks, add storage to your rooms (IKEA is a good cheap option) get your staff to check your Pool regularly throughout the day. Hire a pest control company (an organic/natural one so you don’t poison visiting puppies and people don’t step or breathe in poison). Figure out hot water situation. Never coming back if they don’t address these issues. NEW...
