2 Stars: I put in a mobile order for a salad and sub at 1. I asked for it to be ready at 145. I then proceeded to get a call asking if I could pick it up at 130. I was having a lunch meeting with my uncle and his break ends at 230. I said sure that works and went to their old location. On their square site it still says the old location as well as apple maps. I had to go into Facebook to find out they moved. I went to the new location at 130 to pick up. I called 5 times without answer and about 140 a lady came up and asked me for my name. I then proceeded to get a text saying my food was ready right after she left. No one was there, and it took them another 20 minutes to get it to me. I have always loved joes but might not go back if this is how they are going to be from now on. The only good thing was the food. Always good food.
UPDATE: I spoke with Joe and we had a good conversation about whatâs been going on. I expressed my concerns and we talk and he explained to me. I was a little harsh to judge and put up the review, and we were able to sort it out. Still love going there and will be going there very soon. Thank you Joe for reaching out and talking to me about this issue. Means a lot that you do this for your customers and...
Read moreI canât believe that I have lived in this area for over seven years now and last night was my very first Joeâs Deli experience. I had the corned beef Reuben, which I split with my friend Steve because⊠well because it is a BIG sandwich (this I gathered from reading reviews) and we werenât going home for some time, so leftovers werenât an option. I am definitely a corned beef Reuben snob and Iâm so tired of going to places that profess to have the best, and yet it is fatty corned beef served on insignificant bread with way too little sauerkraut. The corned beef on our sandwich was almost absurdly, thin and lean, and tasted like nothing Iâve ever had. It was pure joy to consume! My elderly father who eats like a bird, got the hot ham and cheese and polished off the entire thing saying between every third bite that heâs never tasted a better sandwich in his life, and at 91 years of age, thatâs saying something! We had the pleasure of having Joe himself leave the kitchen to come check on us. We had a lovely conversation with him and promised to take him up on his offer to come back after a few tweaks to the adjoining new space have been completed and beer has been added to...
Read moreJoeâs Deli in Salem is a rare findâa New York-ish style deli experience tucked away in southwest Virginia. Joe makes his own corned beef & pastrami, and coleslaw fresh every dayâ and itâs all absolutely legit.
My credentials; born and raised in Philly for 45 years, Jewish parents from Queens NY, so I promise I know the real thing when I taste it.
Having been granted permission by Joe on one of my many stops in just buying meat by the pound and taking it home to make my own sandwiches, I brought Joe in a proper Jewish marble rye from Wegmans in Richmond (like a Schnitzerâs) because letâs be real, the local rye bread game around here is nonexistent, and Joe made me a cold sandwich that absolutely crushed the mark: thin-sliced corned beef piled high, crunchy slaw with just the perfect amount of sweetness, and some T.I.
Itâs called a âcorned beef specialâ. Simple. Perfect. Pure deli soul.
This place is built on pride, flavor, and tradition. Joe gets it. If you know, you know. Thanks my...
