KFC — Restaurant in Salem

Today, I went to this KCF. There is only one star for quit afew reasons. Where do I start? We will start from the beginning. It's a particularly hot day today so we don't want to cook dinner tonight. So we enter the drive thru and are welcomed just as every other fast food restaurant would. Except, I notice a poor imitation of a fast food window worker video I recently saw on youtube. So instantly, it's annoying. Just do your job and stick with what you are supposed to do. Your not getting paid to spice up your speaker box voice. Then I ordered afew chicken sandwiches with bacon and cheese added to them when she rudely cuts me off and says, "we only have three". I asked, well don't you make them here?" She then says, "well it will take eight to ten minutes, is that okay"? I say, "yes". Then we order the rest of our food with many more issues that I don't want to spend my time on. But as I verified my order with her, she made it very clear that it will now take ten minutes to make those sandwiches like she really didn't want to do it. I get to the window and make my payment when she hands me a warm mt. Dew with no ice. I told her that I don't want it. She should have told me that there wasn't any ice so that I could decline the drink.... anyways, this is getting to long now. I am definitely NOT RETURNING. Also, the window servers...

My wife and I came in about 2 hours before closing on a Sunday evening. They didn't have hardly any food prepared. Besides ourselves, there were several other customers who came in as well. We all were being told we couldn't have this or that, and although they were trying to replace items, it became clear that they were simply trying to dump whatever product they had left. We wanted an 8 piece, original recipe with mashed potatoes and gravy, corn, and coleslaw, which came to just over $25.00. We agreed to several replacements such as chicken strips and some leg that looked like it sat all day. When we got home to eat we discovered they didn't even give us all of our order. We returned to find they were still doing the same thing to other customers. When we complained about the service, they grabbed some coupons that were brought in by previous customers and gave us a couple, and told us that if we had any other complaints to call the owner. It was like no one cared about doing there job, and when customer after customer wasn't be given what they were paying for they didn't seem to care. It was clear that all they wanted to do was go home. We will never go back. You would think that in this economy people would take their jobs a little more seriously, but I guess that's why they're working...

KFC has good average chicken. Not the best, not the worst. Their mashed potatoes taste like instant potatoes and their gravy tastes like it was made from a sauce packet. Their Mac n cheese, while very creamy, is bland and again tastes like it was made from a box. They used to have really good chicken and sides, but that was about 20 yrs ago.

TBH, we rarely go to KFC. Mostly because it’s extremely overpriced for very average food. Tonight we only went because of their Tuesday special of 8 pieces of chicken (legs &thighs) for $10. Hard to pass up when you’re too tired from working all day to cook. I also wanted to try the Honey Sriracha saucy nuggets, which were decent, but super tiny pieces.

The total after getting 3 large sides ($6/ea) , the 8 piece chicken deal, and saucy nuggets for $5 something, came out to $33 and some change. Considering the 8 piece chicken with no sides is normally $30 on its own, this was a pretty good deal. Was it amazing? No. But it was a decent meal that didn’t break the bank, and we didn’t have to cook.

I did give them 4 stars for food because it was very hot and fresh and decent portions.

The service was excellent.

I did really appreciate the staff having common sense, which most places lack nowadays, and putting my coleslaw in a separate bag than the hot sides....
