I’ve been to Sushi Kyo many times and usually the foods great and so is the service! Although the restaurant located on commercial has seemed to have lower quality food and service than the Rickey St restaurant. Today my boyfriend and I went on a date to the Sushi Kyo on commercial (around 2 p.m) for Valentines Day! We had the worst quality sushi and the worst server I’ve experienced. She only came to ask us if we wanted any beverages and didn’t come back around to ask us if we wanted to order anything. Once I finally got her attention I ordered 2 Lemmon rolls (side note; we were the only customers at the time) with that being said we should have received our food fairly quick... no it took them 15 min to make the 2 rolls which ended up being very poor quality, they were falling apart and the Lemmon sauce had clumps in it, it looked as if they just threw it together carelessly ( I have this roll every time I eat here and I’ve never had this problem). When she finally brought them to us my boyfriend let her know he would like to order something, she then replied “you just ordered the Lemmon rolls you want something else!?” and acted as if we were inconveniencing her. He ordered a Salem roll and a dish with rice and seared eel which tasted like it had dirt in it🤢!? When we went to pay our tab I had a to-go box of my leftover food which they always give me a bag and ask if I was any chopsticks or fixings which she did not do, I had to ask her for them which again she seemed inconvenienced by. Overall I am dissatisfied with the food and service of this location it seems to get worse every time I go there. I’m only giving 2 stars because I have had good experiences here but lately I’ve been very...
Read moreI've never had sushi before and I started working with the owner's family in Sept 2023 when I got the chance to review some from Sushi Komi. It's freshly made, pretty, artistic, and cool to watch being prepared-but, the real reason for this review is the Chinese family that runs it. I've never experienced strangers looking out for me & my family like them. Passed the language barrier to include me in their own personal family's regular homemade delicious meals without a second thought- on the daily. They work so hard every single day and then when I am unavailable-nobody hesitates to jump in and cover my back-they pick up ALL slack and not a peep of complaint. They are more American than they get credit for by the average annoyed customer who disapproves of their accent, pronunciation, whatever trivial beef they have. We were all (heritages and historically) once immigrants trying to make it here. True grit, salt of the earth, decent folks you can trust. They deserve citizenship if anyone ever did. Idk what the specific details are, but ultimately that inspired a loyalty that will definitely do some crazy things for the good of these people. The family is likewise fiercely loyal to their group of regular faithful customers. So before you consider a snarky remark- meet them. You may have a new perspective and maybe new friends. And.....yes their pretty creations are craved by masses to be...

11/29/2022 Update:
No longer Sushi Kyo. But I stopped in for a lunch with a friend because I saw the Facebook ad for hotpot. Something Salem doesn't have so I was excited to try something. Sukiyaki was the actual name of the dish. •Lunch $15.99 •Dinner 19.99 And I think it was worth it for the cost and experience. The dish does take a little bit for them to make it. But that wasn't a issue because you can just munch on some plates before it comes. We got some cucumber salad, cucumber rolls, and a seared peppered fish that was a flavor bomb.
They bring out the dish with a lit flame. It boils in front of you. They do have hot oil and out sauces for dipping. It had a perfect meat, noodle, veggie, broth ratio. I loved the broth. Absolutely yummy.
The veggies were pretty standard: mushrooms (3 types), carrots, green onion, leek, and cabbage.
Rice noodles were at the bottom getting all the yummy flavor.
They had sliced beef and a couple fish cakes for the protein.
I loved watching the meat cook in the soup. It was fun!
I wasn't able to finish my bowl. But I tried!
Staff were super friendly very polite.
They let me know that they will be adding more items to the menu like yakisoba and other hot food items to order.
Very excited to see what they add...
