Whuttles BBQ — Restaurant in Salem

I absolutely love this place. The location is inside of Walmart in Salem with ample space to bring family and friends or find a quiet corner and relax. My favorites are the Mac and cheese. Everything is made from scratch onsite. The Mac is the owner's mother's original Southern recipe and although I'm not typically a fan of potato salad, I often order theirs. Made from scratch and has just the perfect consistency. Brisket, pulled pork, and their homemade meatloaf are my three favorite smoked meats on the menu.... although the smoked salmon is probably one of my favorite treats. My father, in assisted living in Salem, asks me to GrubHub him combos monthly. He told me its the best brisket and Mac that he's tasted on the West Coast and honestly I agree. The staff is super friendly and always helpful with the menu and I really enjoy making it out to Whuttle's everytime I visit Salem. To the brothers, cooking is an art form and I'm appreciative of them offering amazing culinary meals at reasonable prices. BBQ sauce is made in house from scratch and most meet is so well seasoned I don't need much.

Whuttles is an unassuming place at first glance, located inside the Lancaster Walmart at the Grocery entrance, but don't let that dissuade you from giving this hidden gem a chance.

We were greeted warmly and offered some great insight on what to try as newcomers. Being our first time, we ordered a two-meat combo of brisket and pulled pork, with mac n' cheese and potato salad for sides.

While we waited for our order, we took in the atmosphere. There are some beautiful murals to admire, though the rest of the restaurant is a bit stark and cold.

That said, it smells amazing, and our food did not disappoint! Everything was delicious, but I would be lying if I said that mac n' cheese wasn't the star here. Wow! We could eat a bucket of that alone and die happy...

This place is a hidden gem! They are located inside of the Walmart on north Lancaster drive where you would never expect to find a local business with amazing tasting southern BBQ.

They offer a variety of BBQ items which include meatloaf and salmon something you wouldn't think about being barbecued but their stuff is out of this world. You actually can smell the barbecue outside of the building cooking which just draws you in to a small restaurant with a hand painted interior and newspaper articles mounted on the wall sharing the history of Whuttles.

The staff is great and if you're lucky you might get to meet one of the cooks. We had a great time finding out more about their place where we waited for her to go order. I don't live in Salem but I can tell you when I go there from now on I'm going to be stopping at Whuttle's on a...
