I used to love this place a lot. I have eaten here many times. But it has become totally disgusting! I ordered the "I love tuna combo." My husband arrived home 20 minutes after it was picked up. We have brought home sushi from here multiple times!! So I know what to expect. This time, I was absolutely appalled. I opened the box, and of course, there's the regular fish smell, but NOT this time. I almost puked at the smell of this. Then I noticed one of the spicy tuna roll pieces was unnaturally black. I called to let them know and the server said it's that color because it's fresh cut as of yesterday. There is no way "fresh" tuna can turn BLACK and smell that awful if it's fresh. Do not go here and waste your money for moldy fish!! And on top of that, you're basically paying for just rice.$70 down the drain! This place is a rip-off!

As a former Salida resident, I was thrilled to see some new additions to town. Finding food outside of pizza, burgers and Mexican in the heart of the Rockies can be quite the challenge. Sushi Thai is such a welcomed addition. The service was incredible… my water was never empty. Rare to have this kind of service post-Covid. Order the shrimp pad Thai and spice level 4 and it was very good. It’s above average Thai. The heat of the 4 was mild at best if you’re a heat seeker. I was surprised by the large portion of shrimp as well! It’s a little pricey, but everything in Salida is pricey. But in my opinion, I find you can excellent value for the money. If I still lived here, Sushi Thai would definitely be in my bi-weekly rotation! Side note, the fried shrimp shumai is a great starter!

Got a recommendation from a Salida local who said the food here was incredible, and they didn’t let us down. Although we ordered to-go, the restaurant itself is situated perfectly in downtown Salida which is the cutest town nestled in the mountains. The food itself was so good and we CRUSHED everything we ordered - it was so hard to stop eating. The Crab Rangoon was easily the best we’ve ever had. Loved the pan-fried pork gyoza, and the sauce was different and more tasty than we’ve come across before for gyoza. The basil in the chicken fried rice was a little over-powering, but the entree overall was still really good. This would be a regular spot for us if we were local to Salida!

This was a confusing experience. I want to explain.

We were the first customers. After a few minutes, someone directed us to sit wherever.

Few minutes later, we receive water from waitress #1 .

Few minutes later, waitress number #2 brought soy bowls.

Few minutes later waitress #1 refreshed our waters.

10 minutes later, we went up to the counter as we thought maybe we had to place our order there. Waitress #3 directed us back to our table as she chastised another Waitress #1 and sent her to our table to take our order.

We ordered two apps and two entrees.

About 7 minutes later, waitress #3 brought us two beautiful, piping hot entrees. We were excited but confused since we ordered app’s. Waitress #3 was confused. We asked if she’d deduct the apps and we would be fine without them.

About 5 minutes later, Waitress #4 brought us a dragon roll and we didn’t order one. We tried to explain we didn’t order it. It was clear she wasn’t happy.

After eating, we were ready to pay and go after eating excellent food and again, no one came so we walked up and we discovered the original apps were still on our ticket. So, waitress # ? Voided the original ticket.

All that to say the back of the house has got it going on! Amazing chefs back there! Presentation - extraordinary! Hot! And every bite was perfection.

Front of the house on Wednesday, Mar 5 about 5...

Food was honestly great but the service was abysmal. Party of 2, got seated at a 4-top (the only available table). Order apps/sushi/drinks, a little later we get asked to move to a newly-vacant 2-top to make room for a party of 4 waiting. We gladly oblige, thinking it'll be fine.

Server comes up to our new 2-top about 15 minutes later and takes entrée orders, still no sushi. Entrées come out, they ask if we need anything else and we remind them we ordered sushi. Profuse apologies, they say they'll have it out soon. Half hour later, still no sushi. Mention it again and they again apologize and say they'll get it. Few minutes later they bring half of what we ordered (??) and ask if we need anything else. We again remind them the other half of the order (which was placed over an hour ago at this point), they again apologize and promise to get it.

Fast forward to the 2-ish hr mark of being in the restaurant and we just tell them to forget the sushi and bring our check. This spurs them into action to figure out what went wrong, and they tell us the order was actually made and sent to our old table, and didn't come to us because we chose to move. I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt because I've worked in restaurants and sht happens, but to have the blame placed on us after we moved tables *at the restaurant's request is...

I loved this place! Yes it is very tight dining in the middle but the atmosphere was good enough that I ended up forgetting all about how crammed it was. The staff did check up on us quite a few times before we were ready which was fine, I would rather be checked on more than none. The food... was AMAZING!!! I had the Tuna Avocado salad which was so good, light and refreshing! I will definitely be back in the summer to get it again, I didn't eat to much of the sushi itself but what I did have was good, especially for a little mountain town. The only thing I didn't like about the sushi is it tasted like they used imitation crab meat vs real but then again my taste buds could've been off. Friends of mine had the Pho (which would be my second pick because it was so good), the green curry was good and then drunken noodles were good, just not what I prefer. All in all this place was really good, the staff even poured my friend's sake bombs for them and was having a good time with all of us...
