“F” Street Five and Dime — Local services in Salida

Not the best experience for me and my wife. Many of the surrounding shops greeted us with a friendly welcoming gesture, but not the staff at this shop. My wife had selected a souvenir she really liked for a friend. Wife goes to the cash register to pay for it. There was a young cashier girl that looked about 17 years old, she immediately runs into the back without a word after my wife sets the item on the counter. Prior to my wife approaching the counter, this cashier girl was just sitting there doing absolutely nothing. Luckily, there was a second cashier in her late 50s, we figured this second cashier would jump in and ring us out. Not knowing what was going on, we blindly waited for a few minutes to make a payment for the souvenir. The young cashier never returned. The old cashier we had hopes on just continued to scroll on her phone (she knew we were there with her quick peeks at us then back to staring at her phone). The unwelcoming gesture of get out of our store had become obvious for me and my wife as the old cashier continued to scroll aimlessly on her phone. So we just left the souvenir remaining on the counter and left the shop. Me being me, I watched from the outside, from behind a post, as new customers entered the shop. The old cashier was all full of welcoming gestures and the young cashier had mysteriously returned from the back as soon as we left the shop. Yes you guessed it! My wife and I are from Southern India, and we have dark skin color. May this shop have my blessings of complete suffering in silence for their pathetic...

Love this place. If you need a gift to take home for family/friends from Salida this is your place. In the very back they have great Salida t-shirts for a great price.
