While their sandwich was good, I will share why I'm giving a low rating. We were told to come to sweeties because the locals rave about the sandwiches and we love sandwiches and supporting local business so we decided to venture down there and check it out while on vacation in salida. Not sure if this was the owner taking our order but she snapped at my husband not once, but twice. "WE don't HAVE meal deals! Everything is a la carte! AND I DONT HAVE FRIES!" My husband mistakenly asked if my daughter wanted fries with her sandwich. A half peanut butter and jelly mind you that was almost $7. I was slightly indecisive as I can't eat much and I'm very simple. But didn't want to break the rules if kids sized sandwiches were for 12 and under. Which it doesn't state on the menu but doesn't hurt to ask.
She was very pushy with me making up my mind and "well you should just try this sandwich then!" But that's not what I wanted. I just wanted something not loaded up. Something a little lighter. So she said "we'll just do the kids turkey then!" Which is what I wanted in the first place but she set the tone at the beginning with her attitude and I didn't want to irritate her even more.
We get our sandwiches from the food runner who was very kind and nice. My husband even made a comment "well he was really nice at least!" My youngest daughter got half a pb and j for $7, my oldest and I got the same sandwiches, I was sick first. Then she got sick later. Gas, bloating, trips to the bathroom swiftly. And i realized the bread is what made us ill. If you are sensitive to sourdough, go another route on your bread if you have a choice. My husband got a wrap and feels fine same with my little one. It's the next morning and we still don't feel right from our sourdough turkey sandwiches.
So essentially, the reason for my rating being a business owner myself, rude staff/owner taking your order, prices are ridiculous and the bread gave us GI issues. A nice recommendation from the locals but we won't be returning on our next vacation and i hope with this review, they make some adjustments as to how they interact with people especially out of town folks when you own a restaurant part of that job is customer service and the...
Read moreCame to town to meet a friend/coworker on business and then take the afternoon to river surf. He said, “I HAVE TO take you to Sweeties.” I said, “Eh, I’m not much of a sandwich guy. I think I’ve had my lifetime share of sandwiches from the chain places.” He said, “Ohh, just you wait.” So we ordered online, which was simple enough. We swung by on the bikes on the way to the river, and when we got the river we opened them up, and I was like, “Yo. Okaaaay!!!” These guys pay attention to detail. I ordered the HILLBILLY as all my friends know I’m a fool for two things: brunettes names Val and Roast beef with horseradish. And I crushed that sandwich. Inhaled it almost. Good toasty baguette, roast beef and horseradish, Dijon and garlic aioli that you can feel deep down in your inner Italian parts. Then they chuck a little spinach and sprouts on there to get that little bit of hillbilly green that’d make yer momma proud. And of course, they wrap the pickle in the second layer of the paper. They know. They know. If you’re coming through town perusing reviews (you peruser reviewser, you!) and you’re thinking, “Ehh, I don’t know. What’s so special about sandwiches, anyway?! They’re like the common man’s victuals. I’m better than that,” then you just bite your tongue. Then after you’ve bitten your tongue, go and bite a Sweetie sandwich, then swallow your words and give them a strong rating. Cuz Sweetie’s knows what’s up on the sandwich front. Thanks, Sweeties....
Read moreAmazing sandwiches, so yummy! Highly recommend, can tell the ingredients are high quality and the combinations are creative and delicious. We got two sandwiches with the gluten free bread, and one with the regular. I will say, I always so appreciate when a gluten free option is available, but the bread needs to be better. Especially with a $3.50 surcharge per sandwich. This isn’t 2005 (when I first found out I was not able to eat gluten) and there are sooooooo many amazing options now for breads that have great ingredients and stick together/have a great taste - it was also an odd chouce because my daughter got pb&j on gluten free and the bread had almost an oniony taste to it, so that didn’t fly and was definitely money wasted. Genuine feedback here but can’t really knock the place for it, as I appreciate they are trying and everything else was amazing. My husband’s non GF sandwich was...
