I want to start this post by writing this was the 3rd and final bad dining experience at Mac's over the past 3+ years. We were seated immediately after arriving which was the last good thing that happened with this experience. After waiting at our table almost 15 minutes with no server, I walked back to the hostess stand to ask who our waitress was. Shortly after our waitress arrived and took our drink order. She asked if we were ready to order our entrees as well and we replied, no, we wanted some time with our drinks. Close to 10 minutes later she returned with our cocktails and we ordered fresh oysters as well as our entrees. Our waitress was not able to answer our questions about the oyster varieties, so we order a half dozen of each, based on the menu descriptions. When I attempted to order one of the menu's signature dishes for my entree, the pecan-Cajun crusted whitefish, she replied they were "out of it". After the other 3 members of my party ordered, I ended up placing an order for my 2nd choice. Our waitress returned later with our oysters, and as she set the trays of 6 each on the table she did not know which was which, referring to one tray as the "petite ones". Approximately 15 minutes after my Dad had placed his entree order for the swordfish, another signature dish, our waitress returned to our table to report they were also "out" of it. He also placed his 2nd choice order and we continued on. It's important to note the oysters, salad, coleslaw and cocktails were all delicious. Our waitress later delivered our entrees and my husband and I ordered 2 draft beers. My 2nd choice scallops were bland and the red skin potatoes with butter my husband had as a side turned out to be white new potatoes sans butter and were disappointing. We finished our entrees and our beers still had not arrived. The staff I spoke to earlier in the evening walked by so I got up and asked her to cancel our beer orders, as we were already done eating. She was not apologetic, or friendly for that matter. A minute after this occurred our waitress arrived with our beers so I again, got up, walked over to the staff and told the beers had just arrived. That same staff helped to clear plates, and offered to bring our check. I was disappointed to see there was no apologies, nor credits to our bill, even though we expressed issue with the restaurant staff. We paid our bills, and to be honest, if my parents had not been with us, we would have addressed these issues in person, but since they are "not rock the boat" type of people, we did not. That is why we took the time to write this detailed review. As I noted at the start of this post, tonight was not our first bad experience at Mac's, but I can safely say, it was our last.
(The other 2 times we had bad experiences, there were many of these same issues. Dishes we tried to order were not available, and absent and unapologetic servers and restaurant staff didn't help. One of nights out, my whitefish was burnt on the outside and raw within and it took almost 30 minutes to get my "re-fire" back. The calamari was not fresh, and to be honest, seemed like the same battered ring you can purchase at the grocery store. We've tried to come back year after year, but this 3rd time proved Mac's is not worth the money and not a...
Read moreNot impressed. Unfortunately, nothing was good, except the friendliness of staff and yet, they were not great. First, the soft drinks were flat. Our appetizer, which was suggested by the waitress was the Lobster Poutine. It was frozen French fries smothered in too much cheese and a few bits of lobster. As we were eating our appetizer, a food runner delivered an appetizer that belonged to the couple sitting in the booth behind us. After about 5 minutes, we caught the attention of our waitress to let her know that appetizer wasn't ours. She then proceeded to take the order and serve it to the other couple. And she admitted to them, it was delivered to the wrong table. She had no idea how long it had been sitting at our table or if either of us had touched it. (Which we didn't)But if we were the other couple, we would have requested a new order. The New York Strip was overcooked and tough, as was the pork chop. Both ordered medium. The waitress said she would return to see if our meals were cooked as we liked. But she never returned. And the steak knives were dull, which made cutting the meat difficult. Neither of us finished our meal. We were hoping that we would end our meal with a fantastic dessert!!! We ordered the Chocolate Brownie Ice Cream Sundae. It was awful! The ice cream was rock hard. The brownies tasted like a Little Debbie Low Fat Brownie. It was the worst tasting brownie we've ever had. And the Chocolate sauce tasted like Hersey's chocolate syrup that you use to make chocolate milk. It was not good. So disappointed in our experience. We agree that bread and the Cole slaw...
Read moreWhenever I eat in Saline, I always go to Mac's. The restaurant is cute and cozy, with a great atmosphere and decor. Even when it's packed, it's not too loud to talk, which is a big complaint I have with many places. I've tried and enjoyed a lot of things on the menu: Salmon, Tuna, Swordfish, Ettouffe, Crab Cakes; but I always find myself going back to the Fried Perch. The delicate breading is always crisp and never soggy -- just the perfect crunch before you get to the tender, tasty fish. The portions are plentiful, and I usually have enough to take a couple fillets home. Mac's also recently introduced me to a new vegetable: caulilini. It was perfectly cooked, not soggy, but also not too raw. I hope they keep it in the lineup as the fresh veggie side. My wife loves the Lobster Fettucine, and the Saku Tuna appetizer. Both highly recommended. The drinks are good, as is the tasty house salad with Michigan Dried Cherries. The bread is always fantastic! We don't usually have room for dessert, but when we do they're always great! The service has always been good. Mac's has been around for a while, and I'm glad it's still going strong. It's just a short drive from Ann Arbor, too, and we don't have to deal with downtown traffic or parking hassles. It's my first choice for fine...
