Yesterday, a friend and I brought our appetites to Village Inn Pizza Parlor. I have fond memories of of this restaurant, family owned and operated since I was a child.
They used to be also located near Christo's, where Marco's is now. Its trademark was a circulst, very hot, fireplace, with a huge vent above it, and a decor similar to a Swiss chalet. It felt cozy, warm, and very welcoming.
That location's gone, but the warm welcome is still there. We literally came in, out from a dreary, cold, drizzly evening.
Food was instant--no waiting. Once we got ourselves a table, the buffet was inviting, so we dug in. Soup, which warmed us immediately, and tasted wonderful. You-make-yourself salad... I had been craving this. For me, the mixed greens(alas, no raw spinach!!😭😭😭😉), broccoli, mushrooms, cucumbers, carrots, green olives, and cottage cheese did it for me. I ate every bite, except for half a pickle spear! Two small slices of pizza, and chocolate pudding finished it off for me. I was content.
So was my friend, who enjoyed a salad with beets, jalapenos, tiny tomatoes, Ted onions...and, like me, two small slices of pizza.
Convivial, kind, welcoming, everyone made us feel more like we were in someone's dining room. We felt at ease, at home, relaxed.
I love the other pizza places:. Domino's, Pizza Hut, Slice of Heaven, and CiCi's. They're all good! Still, Village Inn has a soft spot for me. Childhood memories, family lore, good good that's never changed in quality... that's special. They're a tradition in Salisbury--and I hope they remain so for many years to come.
Thank you,...
Read more8/20/24 Took my elderly mother and husband about 4:30 this afternoon to eat. We walked in and there were tables that hadn't been busted and cleaned (probably from lunch service) only a few to sit at,the salad bar(which usually sparkles) was a hot freaking mess...food everywhere and on the floor beside it,the pizzas were cold and dried out and looked as if they had been there again from the lunch service! My husband had requested a meat pizza (whi h he normally does) and usually has no problem with them making it,but on this day it was a problem! He asked about the specific pizza when some time had gone by to the cashier and her response was there is a half meat half pepperoni up there. Needless to say he didn't get a pizza! There were other elderly people there and noticed the same condition of the place! We left and on the way out I asked for the managers name and number and the new cashier did give it to me and I explained to her the extent of our experience. After me explaining to her in detail ,her response was "she didn't like the way I talked to her staff"! I never talked to the staff but only to the new cashier who gave me the managers name and number. Needless to say I will be calling and not going back until Thomas Cross gets his place under control and his staff has a better attitude toward dealing with...
Read moreBeen going to Village Inn to eat for about 3 years. Me and my family of 4 (one infant) drive from Lexington and always get the same thing: 1 medium or large pizza, 1 buffet and drinks. My wife and i have always shared the salad from the buffet......until tonight. Seriously bad attitude and vibes from the hostile female employee with glasses running the register. I was kind in placing my usual order when she, with venom, ask if i would be purchasing a second salad tonight. I was taken by surprise and said no. So she again with seriously bad vibes informed me that me and my wife would not be sharing any salad tonight. i said no 2nd salad i would just go without. My wife got involved and things escalated a little. WE went back to our table, ate and left. This brought meaning to an unpleasant event that happened the last time we ate there in which the fat girl that brought our pizza out threw it on the table and gave my wife dirty looks. we were unsure why, and thought maybe she was just having a bad day. now we know. I would have gladly purchased the 2nd salad, had i not been met with such hostility and a condescending attitude. really would not have been a big deal if i had just been approached in a constructive way about it. Really too bad, because we liked to food. oh well, won't ever see another...
