I am not sure what the change at the location has been but the overall quality and service has drastically deteriorated over the past year or so. This location specifically was always so incredible for so many years but unfortunately I cannot say the same as of late. My most recent visit was the culmination of this.. I placed a simple online order for a salad and arrived to pickup my order a few minutes after the time it was scheduled to be ready (it usually takes an extra couple of minutes to finish up orders). Upon arriving I approached the pickup counter and began to stand there. Several workers kept coming up, none asking me a name for my order or if I had been helped. Several more customers entered and we all just stood and looked at each other with confusion wondering what the wait was. Finally after almost twenty minutes a worker asked for my name. I gave it to her and she informed me that my card was declined for my online payment. I said that was impossible because I received a conformation of my order through Cafe Rio's "new and improved" app. She said that really didn't mean anything and that I would need another form of payment. So I gave her another card fully expecting to find out later I had been charged twice. I got home and opened the bag to eat my salad, and I found that they had forgotten my extra salad dressing that I had paid an extra dollar for. Not only that, but the dressing that comes with the salad was also missing. And to top it all off it turned out I was charged twice for the food on two separate cards. Needless to say I wasn't too happy with my $20 salad with no dressing. I am hopeful that I can find another Cafe Rio location in the valley that has the same quality and service that the 400 S location once had. But for now I am taking my business elsewhere and I recommend you...
Read moreIf I could’ve given this location is zero star rating I totally would. The manager is a complete arrogant piece of garbage who has no business having anything to do with management. This location nickels and dimes you for every little thing that you add we asked for extra sauce because he didn’t put enough on when he made the Burrito initially and they all made it a big deal that it was going to be an extra dollar at the checkout. When we asked the girl the check out we so wait this is extra she gave us attitude and ripped the receipt out of the machine and went over to talk to the manager‘s name was Alejandro. He came over and wanted to argue over a dollar, because he himself did not make the burrito with enough sauce. You already pay extra to have the smothered burrito and then he wants to charge you for more. I couldn’t wait to see if I asked for extra limes or extra pico if he would charge me an extra $.50 or a dollar. He held up the entire line to sit and try to argue with us and not to me myself being in management is not OK the customer is always right. We have gone to several Cafe Rio locations all over the United States and have never been charged extra for extra sauce when you’re ready pay $1.50 extra just to have it put on the Brito because it doesn’t come standard. It’s not my fault that the manager does not know how to make a proper smothered burrito. He threw away two burritos that we were going to pay for rather than satisfying what we were asking...
Read moreI love cafe rio, so i couldn't give it 1 star, but this is easily the worst location I've yet eaten at. I come here about once a week because it's one of the only food options within a TRAX ride of the U of U that's not greasy fast food. Four times now, the rice has been slightly undercooked and hard to chew. Twice, the shredded chicken has been overcooked and stringy. At lunchtime, there's often an annoying guy portioning out the meat and beans who has a running gag of pretending to misunderstand your order by declaring "Black beans!" when you requested pinto beans and then smilingly saying "Just kidding!" when you begin to protest. It's cute the first time, maybe, but i don't like to be trolled when I'm paying 10 dollars for a pile of rice, beans, and chicken. And then today, i walk in to an empty queue at 4:30 pm and still end up waiting 15 minutes to get my food because their focus was on filling a large, complicated online order for a customer who hadn't yet arrived instead of serving the customers standing directly in front of them. Two employees frantically creating a dozen meals while half a dozen others stand around in the back of the kitchen chatting --- there's something very messed up with the management here.
All that said, this is still Cafe Rio and it's still delicious 75% of the time. If you're able to go to another location, i recommend it, but if not, it's worth coming here and hoping to catch them on one of...
