I don't leave reviews. It's not that I don't love some places, it's just that I struggle to remember. So just know that I felt so strongly about this place that I insisted on writing a review.
The Skillet Burrito was everything I want a breakfast burrito to be. The potatoes were impossibly crispy. The shredded beef was fall-apart, but not squishy -- it effectively was the texture of a high-quality steak. The ratio of cheese to other ingredients was ideal. The fresh pico was a great counterbalance to the heavier ingredients. True to its name, the burrito was thrown onto a skillet to finish, so the tortilla had a nice crisp to it. And the green sauce.. I would drink bottles of the stuff.
I also loved a little detail I haven't seen with other burritos: the scrambled eggs were flat and sort of curled around with the shape of the tortilla. You wouldn't think that would make such a big difference, but you'll see. It really does.
This place has spoiled all other breakfast burritos for me.
Also, the person who handed me my to-go order was so friendly. It was a breath of fresh air to see someone serve food with so much passion.
Just go have a burrito from here. Don't...
Read moreI was watching one of those videos where they fill an anthill with aluminum to see the structure of the tunnels. And as I watched I was just thinking what an incredible waste of life it was. Like now that you know what the tunnels look like, what are you going to do with that information? Was it worth it?
I needed to clear my head so I walked down the street to try this burrito truck. I was still feeling weird about the video so I got mine vegetarian. And when it came out it smelled so good but I was really in my head wondering all sorts of stuff. Like do potatoes feel pain? Do legumes scream? What is life? More importantly, what determines the value of a life other than an imaginary mental line that we draw between plants and bugs, bugs and animals, the animals we eat and the animals we let sleep in our beds.
Mindlessly, I took a bite and all of that thought paralysis left me. It was amazing. Everything was just right. So I took another bite. I was in burrito heaven and, if it was screaming, I was too lost in ecstacy to hear it. This is the best breakfast burrito in SLC. I'll be back for sure. I think I might even try the one with...
Read moreSkillets offered a decent breakfast burrito experience, earning it a 4 out of 5 stars.
Pros: I appreciated the lack of crowds and the perfectly toasted tortilla. The tater tots were also cooked just right. Even after we finished eating, the delicious aroma lingering in the truck was quite enjoyable.
Cons: The $15 price tag for the breakfast burrito felt a bit steep. While the burrito was good, it didn't quite justify that cost in my opinion; it felt more like a $10-$12 value. I also would have preferred the sauce to be incorporated inside the burrito rather than having to pour the sauce on top. My biggest disappointment was that the burritos seemed to be pre-made. For $15, I was expecting a freshly cooked meal and it unfortunately felt similar to buying a pre-made option from a convenience store, but at triple the price.
Despite my personal preferences, my son really enjoyed his burrito, which bumped my initial 3-star feeling up to a 4-star 🌟 Hopefully, this...
