It's fine but definitely not worth the price tag. It is easy to spend $50 on breakfast for two people here. The drip coffee is $8. Limeade is $6. I feel like they need to either choose to be an interesting boundary-pushing foodie place (and be able to live up to it. They currently can't.) or a basic comfort food place. There are enough curve balls in the otherwise comfort-branded cuisine that they're not doing either well. And I don't like my breakfast to come with a side of the frontier airline business model -- nickel and diming for things that should be a part of the basic breakfast experience. Like hashbrowns. And drip coffee. No side comes with your $12-16 breakfast, you have to add has hashbrowns for $3. The quinoa in the hashbrowns adds neither a desirable texture or flavor so I can only assume its there to make people feel like their comfort food breakfast is... healthier? The hashbrowns were dry, toasty and flavorless.
The hollandaise was... vinegary? Maybe it was too much fake lemon flavor but, again it wasn't particularly nouveau or basic comfort. Otherwise, the garden benedict was fine. But aren't we into the benedict because of the hollandaise?
The French toast was delicious and also so syrupy sweet, its not for every one. Adding whipped cream costs an extra $3. If you added hashbrowns ($3), berries ($3) and whipped cream ($3) and a coffee ($8) to your French toast, you're looking at a $31 breakfast. There are so many better breakfast places in town that are much more affordable, and better atmosphere and food. The phone system is literally just a recorded message to say check the website or send an email with questions. You can't talk to a person. There was a sign outside the restaurant saying hours have been extended recently but are not reflected on their website. Since they can't answer the phone, only people who are currently at the restaurant will know you can...
Read moreFirst impression of the atmosphere was that it needed a sprucing up. Big time. The tables and chairs looked to have come from a mundane diner and there was no real theme to the decor. And as I looked closely it also seemed to be in need of a deep cleaning, possibly some updates. These things wouldn’t typically bother me if I was paying less than $10 for my meal but considering the prices, I would expect a higher standard in this area. After tip our meal was over $65.
We ordered the pancakes with fried chicken (forgot the name) and the Biscuit Benedict, with Cubano meat added, with an iced tea and a raspberry limeade. The appearance of the food and drinks were impressive and we felt excited to dig in. The biscuits were scrumptious and the poached eggs were perfect. I also very much enjoyed the hollandaise sauce! I thought the quinoa potato hash was interesting and satisfying. And I liked the Cubano meat okay but if I got it again I’d have it on the side because it made my biscuits soggy. :( The pancakes were fine but not special in any way. The chicken seemed slightly rubbery, like it had been frozen and refried. This plate was kind of disappointing unfortunately.
The raspberry limeade was tasty but way too much pulp for our liking and, maybe it wouldn’t matter to anyone else, but the lime slice on the drink was a bit dried out like it had been sliced yesterday and left out… Then the iced tea wasn’t very flavorful or sweet.
The service was good and met expectations but did not add anything special to the experience. I appreciated that we did not need to wait for a table and the food was delivered relatively quickly after we ordered.
Overall, I enjoyed my meal but sadly, there weren’t many other details that made the experience special enough to get me to want to return. The biscuits were SO GOOD, although I just cannot justify to...
Read moreWe went here for lunch and experienced around 30-45 minutes of a wait time, which I hear is better than normal. We went during peak hours, at 1 o'clock. They don't accept reservations, so remember that when wanting to try this place out. My husband and our friend ordered the Hoss and were so happy with it. I had The Rodger, which was some bacon, eggs and their quinoa hash browns and a biscuit. The kids both wanted the pizza, and our other friends had the Biscuit Bar (biscuits and gravy) and another dish that had a biscuit with pulled pork or something like that.
The portions are pretty big, so keep that in mind. Price point is great and affordable, not cheap and not expensive, around $9-12 per entree.
I was very pleased with my order and I LOOOOOVED the biscuit so much. Our friend with the Biscuit bar was underwhelmed by what we think was the gravy. To me, it tasted like Thanksgiving Day gravy, if that makes sense, and so I guess he was expecting a different kind of flavor. My friend with the pulled pork said it was fine. The Hoss orders said it was amazing. I was severely disappointed with the kids pizza, though! The kids hated it. WHO HATES PIZZA? Especially a child. Well I decided to try it and they use straight up cheddar cheese rather than solely mozzarella or another more mild cheese. I wouldn't have eaten that, either.
The limeades were good. We ordered the orange strawberry limeade ( I think) and it was VERY good. Our friend had the mint limeade and said it was extremely tart and wasn't happy with it. They use legit cane sugar so it doesn't blend well in the limeade, but all ya gotta do is swirl your straw a bit to get the settled sugar to rise back up in the drink. The hot chocolate was also ordered, looked amazing and tasted great.
Definitely worth a shot. This was my second time, and I imagine I'll...
