Well it’s definitely a long story, we arrived at the 54th Street Restaurant at approximately 1850 hours on 8/15/2020 my wife and I were on vacation with my son and his family and he advised us that this was an awesome place to eat. Well after the experience that we had tonight I said to him as I’ve always said I’ve been here my first and last time. Before I start I will advise of you of my understanding of things during the pandemic. So as I stated earlier we arrived at 1850 hours and were told that it would be approximately 30-40 minutes for our wait we said ok, then it became another 20-30 minutes and again once more 20-30 minutes there were only 7 in our party so patiently we waited. When finally we were asked to come in for seating we were separated at two different tables and by this time we had been waiting approximately two hours we then requested if we could be sat at the same table together and after much discussion with three different people a kind lady name unknown said sure we can just put these two tables together and y’all can sit here, we Thanked her of course. We preceded with our order and the biggest issues were with my wife’s and my food. She ordered the steak and shrimp plate and asked for the steak to medium with the loaded mashed potatoes and salad, I ordered the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese with salad. Upon receiving our food I immediately looked at my wife’s steak and new that it was over cooked and she cut into it and verified for sure, she then asked for it to be recooked and the waitress took it as requested. While waiting for my wife’s steak to come I began to eat my food only to realize that it was the blandest steak that I’ve ever eaten and definitely not cooked properly and the macaroni and cheese was tasteless as well with very little cheese flavor at all mostly tasted like wet noodles and then my wife’s second steak finally made it to the table after about 15-20 minutes and again I looked right at the steak and could definitely tell once again that it was also over cooked again. At this point I’ve began to get very perturbed because most everyone at our table has now just about finished with their dinner. I voiced just a few complaints to the waitress or manager whichever she was about the issues that mine and my wife’s meals were both unbeatable and she offered a box so without loosing my cool and becoming mean and unpleasant I simply stated that we didn’t want any of it and I left the restaurant and awaited for my wife and the rest of the party talked inside. Upon them arriving outside with me my son advised me that the manager had given him and the other part of our party gift cards but nothing to my knowledge was really stated about the issues with mine and my wife’s meals. So in closing I must say that the next time we travel 1700 miles to visit my son I definitely know that we will not be going to the 54th Street Restaurant for dinner in SanAntonio Texas or probably not any of them. Read moreI've been updating as we dare to visit. PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST. Ok, we were going to go to Roadhouse but the wife says " Lets go to 54th Street we haven't been there in awhile." Now I know why. I really wanted some ribs but they're out. Who would have thunk it, a place that is competing against Roadhouse which is right next door is out of ribs. Come on now. This is Texas kill a cow! After 3 months I tried this place again. Had to drop it to 1 star, they have officially lost my business. Don’t tell me to sit then ask me to move… We are currently sitting at a table a one of their competitors 2 drinks in.
They blew it! We decided to go and give them another try today 06/29/22. The service was awesome seated with no wait. Our waiter was great but the food and delivery was terrible. We actually received our appetizers at the end of the meal. We did receive a discount and a appetizer gift card for that. My shrimp was so over cooked to the point that they crumbled. There was absolutely no flavor to the steaks. If the cooks/chefs, or grillers were ok with sending food out like that there was no need to send it back. There would be no change. Needless to say we will not be returning. What a bummer, 😔
This location is lost, today is 02/08/2025 our bill was over 400.00. technically I'm not complaining about that part. I'm complaining about the quality of food. The attention to detail is very important. When someone is explaining what and how they want food to be prepared listen, pay attention, and if your not sure ask questions. To the managers/GM/ Owner I'd consider this to be unacceptable. The type of customer service and quality of food is how a restaurant keeps it's customers returning with positive feedback. Ask yourselves how many people have we told about our experience tonight alone and how many people will look at our reviews? Not just mine but also the others that were in the group. This place has a great atmosphere, but let be honest. I don't care what's on the walls, I'm glad you took.the time to find all that stuff it's something to look at while waiting for food. I don't care about the music that's playing I'm probably trying to have a pleasant conversation with family and friends, I don't care what is on tv, having a tv on is a distraction. Read moreNot giving the restaurant one star, giving the hostess one. Me and my boyfriend always come to eat 54th but tonight was ridiculous. My boyfriend and i arrive on friday october 19 at about 10:30 after an extremely long day. While walking in we weren’t greeted nor asked how many people were eating. When i walked up to the hostess she asked if a table was fine to which we agreed because the restaurant was busy. While walking to the table we saw 3 empty clean booths by windows and she chose to put us on a huge table in the middle of the restaurant that was very crowded. My boyfriend, who is prior law enforcement cannot mentally handle being surrounded by lots of people and loud noise due to the mental trauma he acquired through out the years. We declined sitting at a table and said we’d wait for a booth. While waiting, another couple walked in and she looked directly at us and sat them in the corner booth that we told her would have suited us perfect. Immediately after the couple was seated she looked at us and very thoughtlessly asked us if we would like a big booth. Already having difficulty walking in to 54th knowing it was busy , my boyfriend said he would do his best to just enjoy the time together because of how much we love this establishment. The hostess who’s name we did not get, seemed clueless at her job and could have cared less even though it was obvious that he was already having a hard time. The older gentleman who seems to be the GM , walked to the front and my boyfriend tried explaining what happened, but he was already to upset to continue so we left. This review is not to steer people away, especially after past communication with the older gentleman who always shows us the utmost respect and love for us and his other customers. The hostess responsible belongs in a minimum wage fast food restaurant with very little customer interaction until she grows up and is able to understand people.
