Armadillos Texas Style Burgers-City Base — Restaurant in San Antonio

This place has so much potential given the location and bar, but they would be better off completely revamping the menu or discontinuing selling of their food. I used to love the armadillos at the downtown location, but like this one, the food quality has changed for the worst. I went again today, desperate to find something I can like in the menu, but even things that are hard to mess up tasted below average (tots, salad, “chicken wings,” and chicken tenders). Some individual item assessments:

Burgers are not as flavorful as they used to taste, the quality of beef used to be so savory, and the produce was so fresh I used to recommend the place to anybody that would listen to me.

The fries and tots are usually overcooked, stale tasting, lacking so much flavor that even salt and the low quality ketchup they have doesn’t salvage.

Chicken tenders are thin, thinly breaded, overcooked and hard tough pieces of meat to eat, again, lacking in flavor. My 5 yo daughter who isn’t picky when it comes to tenders or tots didn’t eat more than a bite.

The boneless chicken wings, are just those aforementioned chicken tenders with sauce that isn’t even fully covering the tenders (even with partially layered sauce they still tasted stale and hard to chew).

The salad was a little too wet and the ranch is a little watered down (not thick) so you get insisting bites of salad with average produce quality.

I’m not writing this to hate on the place, I truly want to find something I like there because I love going to the theater next to it, but this is more a call to action, begging that they consider my words and look into some improvement.

I’ve gone 4 times in the past year hoping to find something I like to eat there, I’ve never heard anybody say they go there for the food line they used to at the downtown location.

Hair in food, manager who said he is “The Owner” argues that a long blond hair didn’t come from kitchen, yet server had blond highlights in her pony tail. Offered us replacement burger but my sister in law lost her appetite, Ewe! We were asked if we would like drinks..... we initially declined, we were turned off and DONE, but after much coercion we accepted 2 Budweiser bottles and upon closure of tab these, “Supposed Comp Drinks” were on our bill😡 My drink Long Island Ice Tea was all sour mix and no taste of tea, I couldn’t drink or enjoy it. Menu items were either not available or they were out, Budweiser beer draft was out????? How hard is it to change a keg???? Two appetizers, only charged for 2 burgers, 1 side of fries, 1 bucket of beer, 1 horrible Long Island Ice Tea, 1 Jack n Coke later..... TOTAL BILL $91.95 before tips. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

Poor service Hairy Food Bartender Can’t make a drink MGR aka “OWNER” Comps Drinks but charges us and hides under the lie and excuse that it’s illegal to comp drinks!!!!! BS it’s not illegal to adjust guest check to keep a customer.!!!!!!!

Next time we will wait at Road House, 54th Street or even Krispy Kream, note to self a wait to get a table always identifies a restaurant that is well liked vs a restaurant that has an immediate table during a peak Saturday night operation hours, this is probably a restaurant a consumer should avoid.

Save you money and avoid hairy food, poor service, and I trained bar tenders and seek a meal...

This truly as the most horrible experience I have had in a dining establishment in a long time. I ordered the chicken fried steak and it was the most bland meal I have ever gotten. I had to douse it in salt and pepper just to flavor it. The breading looked so rushed. I could have dealt with the look but the taste was so bland. Then when I had ordered (2) sodas for my kids but, as kids will do they changed their mind and wanted sweet tea instead and since it was the same price as the soda I asked for teas instead of coke on the refills and the waitress got them but failed to inform me that it would be an additional charge because the tea was homemade she said but the price is tha same as a coke. I didn’t learn of this until I got the bill. I wouldn’t have switched and the icing on the cake was since 4 kids and 2 adults were dining an automatic 20% gratuity was added to the bill. I don’t skimp on tipping my servers but to be charged is upsetting. I would understand if it was a party of 6 adults but kids. I will never go there again and I will make it my duty to inform every friend of mine and every customer that I interact with of the horrible experience I experienced there. I am truly disappointed...
