Every time I eat at Aldaco’s I’m super impressed with the quality of the food. If you want authentic Mexican (with some Tex Mex flair) this is the place to be. I’d venture to state that Aldaco’s is superior to most (if not all) Mexican restaurants in San Antonio. You cannot beat the excellent menu options, food quality and ambience. I highly recommend the avocado margarita. Sit in the bar (called “The Office”) and enjoy nice chats with the friendly bartenders and other patrons. Or, enjoy the views on the fabulous patio. The patio and the views cannot be surpassed by any restaurant in town. It is truly a must see experience. My only complaint has to do with the way Aldaco’s handles reservations and/or seating. There happens to be one hostess named “Kayla” that seems to walk around the restaurant and awkwardly chats with customers. I witnessed her going around (during Covid) and offering toothpicks to random customers. It was a tad odd. The restaurant claims it doesn’t take reservations, yet “Kayla” apparently takes reservations and then forgets she’s told people she’s doing this sort of thing. Her actions on this visit (and my other visit) were a combination of amusing and concerning. However, I must say that the professionalism of another wonderful hostess (I believe her name is “Chloe or Zoe”) was super. She’s a great example of going out of her way to please. I watched her answer phones, meet customer needs and had a wonderful attitude. My suggestion for this otherwise outstanding restaurant is to invest in the ever popular hostess/seating apps that most restaurants are utilizing these days. When there is a wait...simply type into the app the customer’s phone number and they will get a text when their table is ready! Again, Aldaco’s is an excellent restaurant with excellent food, drinks and atmosphere. The confusion at the hostess stand can easily get resolved and shouldn’t be a reason to...

Went there last night for a friend's birthday. It was so bad even he wasn't impressed. And neither was the rest of our group. We had to ask for menus to be brought because none had been put out in the room that had been reserved for us. The server automatically brought us water, which was good, but then over an hour later we had refills. And that was it. No more water. At least leave a pitcher for us. I did love the chips and salsa. However, since it took so long for our order to be taken, we kept eating them. But the waitress kept bringing back less and less. I guess because we were eating so many. The food was overpriced and BLAND. And no. I don't overseason my food. It was awful. Everyone in our group tried each other's food and we all agreed it was bland. How do you make cheese enchiladas with no flavor?! And I had to add some of the salsa to my chile relleno enchiladas to try and make them better. Needless to say, I only ate half of one and didn't bother to take my leftovers to go. $17 wasted.

On the upside, they do have pretty good drinks. The 2 stars are because the drinks made it better. I had the avocado margarita, which was amazing, and the prickly pear margarita. Still prefer the prickly pear at La Gloria, though.

At the end of the night, our waitress still managed to mess up our checks. I had 3 drinks, 2 of which I ordered and one from a friend who bought a round for the table. My check had 4 drinks on it. What part of a round for everyone on so and so's tab did she not get? She even told us she charged everyone for their own drink for that round. Wow. I told her I only had a total of 3 drinks and one was supposed to go on someone else's tab and she gave me this super confused ans unbelieving look. I may have had 3 drinks, but I was counting them! And I had people around me, as well, that could vouch for me.

Overall: good drinks, terrible service, and bland...

We placed a to go order online from this restaurant. I have 3 allergies so I make sure to spell out exactly what they are. Unfortunately, many people do not read the notes I include with the order, and that is what happened with this place. I even called immediately after placing my online order to make sure they understood my allergies because when English isn't your first language it can be challenging to understand that a dairy allergy includes ALL dairy (milk, butter, cheese, sour cream, etc) and when you have 3 of them it's even trickier. I was left on hold for 10 minutes after saying what I was calling about and my daughter had already gone to pick up the food. I hung up the phone and texted my daughter at the restaurant to be sure and ask about them NOT using things I'm allergic to like I listed in my online order. She tells the girl at the hostess table and she disappears into the kitchen. Some one comes out from the kitchen and tells my daughter they definitely did NOT include anything I was allergic to in the order and they had read my list. She brings home the food and sure enough they used soy. I break out in hives and instantly get sick. So now I'm out all the money I spent on my meal, I have nothing for lunch, and I'm now very sick from being exposed to something they said wasn't in the food. I won't eat here again. It's not worth it. I took extra precautions and was lied to. Fortunately, I didn't have an anaphylactic reaction to it. I quickly took a couple benadryl and drank lots of water. With the amount of money we paid for this lunch (almost $90) I expected them to be more conscientious with reading the notes on the order and not lie and say they did so when they...

Understaffed. Food was just okay. We arrived to a gorgeous view of the hills of San Antonio, complete with a rainbow! We wanted to sit on the patio as we brought our small dog on vacation. The wait at the host stand wasn't bad, but they should hire more people to greet. When I asked for a patio table the hostess told me it just started raining. It had recently sprinkled a little, but you could look outside to see that that was over with (there were already 6-7 other parties on the patio, which has no roof, just a shady shroud). Anyway, she had me sit on a bench while she sat at least 3 other parties inside. I was just about to leave after about 10 min of being ignored and walked around when she finally led me outside to our table (there were plenty of seats outside, btw. 3 other empty tables with no reservations). I guess seating people outside takes extra effort? Okay now to the food- THEY CHARGE FOR CHIPS AND SALSA. That being said it was pretty good. I got a house margarita- meh. My date and I split "the works" fajitas (chicken, beef, shrimp). Most of the plate was good. Typical tex-mex fajita spread. I will say don't get the shrimp. The texture was horrible- these were obviously frozen/unfrozen several times. I hate to leave a review like this- this place has a lot going for it. Hire some more people in the front, maybe just for the busy hours. Seafood needs some quality control.

Easily one of the best Mexican restaurants we've been to. Despite being moderately busy, we were seated quickly and received our order in a timely manner. The food is absolutely outstanding, as is the view outside. Their avocado margaritas are an absolute must!

Second time eating here with my wife and had another very good experience. When you come on a weekend evening for dinner you have to plan ahead in the big city or pay the price waiting at a popular restaurant like Aldaco's. We got there a little before 5:30 pm on a Friday and that was perfect. By the time we left an hour later there were quite a few folks waiting, though the restaurant seats a lot of people inside and out, so the wait really isn't that bad. The entire staff was all over the place and a beehive of activity in this large restaurant. We both had the Pollo Aldaco's plate, choosing to go with the recommended split of the green and red sauces. Both were excellent, but we'll give the nod to the red. We took advantage of the $2 off margaritas for Happy Hour and I tried the Hibiscus Jalapeno marg, my wife the Creamy Avocado marg. Both were really good and unique takes on a standard. Saw several other neat drinks on the menu to try during future visits. Our server was all business. Not unfriendly, but not overly smiley and didn't hang around long as soon as she dropped something off or did a drive-by check. Still, the service was good and no complaints overall. Another positive experience. We'll be back.
