When we first pulled up to Alla Nonna’s on San Antonio’s West Side, the building looked pretty inconspicuous from the outside — one of those hidden gems you might drive right past if you didn’t know better. But after hearing all the local buzz, we knew we were in for a treat. The moment we walked in, we were greeted with warm smiles and friendly faces. Though the restaurant is primarily known for takeout, there’s plenty of comfortable space to dine inside — and a few outdoor tables perfect for enjoying a meal when the weather’s nice. We started with the mozzarella sticks and calamari fries, both golden-fried and full of flavor. The mozzarella sticks had one of the best cheese pulls I’ve ever seen, and the calamari fries were crisp, tender, and perfectly breaded — just like everything else on the menu. You can really taste the difference in the care they put into their ingredients. For entrées, we enjoyed the chicken parmesan, lasagna Bolognese, and chicken piccata — and honestly, we loved them all. But if there had to be a showstopper, it was the chicken parmesan. Perfectly cooked, moist chicken with just the right amount of breading, topped with house-made tomato sauce and melted mozzarella. I asked what made it stand out, and they mentioned the chicken is halal — but I think it’s really about the chef’s skill and passion shining through. The lasagna was rich, layered, and comforting, while the piccata surprised me with its bright, lemony butter sauce and capers — a dish that instantly reminded me why I love it. Dessert sealed the deal: cannolis made fresh daily (my go-to favorite) and a cheesecake topped with macerated strawberries that hit the sweet spot without being too sugary — my wife’s top pick. The balance of flavors from start to finish made it one of those meals you just don’t want to end. Chef Raul Mendoza, a longtime San Antonio favorite and former executive chef at Paesanos Riverwalk, pours his heart into every plate. His story, his team, and his flavors bring something truly special to this side of town — proof that great Italian doesn’t have to come with a downtown price tag. If you’re craving scratch-made Italian classics that feel like they came straight from Nonna’s kitchen, take the drive to the West Side. At Alla Nonna’s, you don’t just taste the food — you taste the love San Antonio’s been missing.

First off the service was amazing! Whole staff was welcoming and kind, even the chef greeted us! The food was so delicious, hot, quick, and filling! Portions are large enough to share between two (unless you're like me lol) the salad was fresh, croutons soft but crunchy, chicken was delicious and melted in my mouth and my fav part about the salad was there were no white chunks of all just leafy greens!! The noodles were soft and not rubbery, sauce was savory and flavorful, the chicken Parm was coated evenly, cooked well through out the whole piece, cheese melted perfectly and tasted amazing 😍 please give these guys a try and consider dining in!! Thank you all for the yummy food!

My first time at Alla Nonnas and Wow!!! Talk about a flavourful pizza. My brother had the pepperoni and swore it was one of the most delicious pizza he’s eaten. I had the Margherita pizza and it was spot on, next time I will ask the Chef to leave the pizza In the oven for just a bit longer. My sister ordered the Gluten Free pizza. They got her order wrong, she still managed to enjoy her pizza she loved it! Lastly the eggplant Parmesan was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back for more of this amazing food. Please come and checkout Alla Nonna, support your local businesses. This place will not disappoint you.
