I came here because i was craving bbq and had yet to try Texan bbq since my arrival- far too long to be deemed acceptable. I love me a good smokehouse. It was time & this was nearest to where I was staying. It also had great reviews. I arrived around 6pm and they were sold out of ribs & another option I hadn’t been considering anyways so I didn’t mind. I noticed at other smokehouses peoples complaints involved them being sold of things closer to dinner time. Not the case here- fully operational. I ordered the three meat plate- brisket, pulled pork & smoked turkey. Coleslaw and potato salad for sides. It automatically came with two slices of bread from a generic loaf. A side of bbq sauce came on the side. These places have always been a cafeteria style- you order at the desk and wait for you number to be called. When I was here there was plenty of seating space left. It took maybe five minutes before my order was called up- not long at all. I didn’t wait long at the counter either- maybe it wasn’t a super busy night? I have no complaints either way. The potato salad was very good, lots of flavour. It’s apparently one of their most popular side dishes. I can see why. The coleslaw was a creamy coleslaw and I too thought it was a solid five star. Good portion sizing too. The brisket was cut into equal pieces and very well seasoned. It had a nice pink bark to it. It was tender and full of flavour. I almost didn’t use any bbq sauce to not ruin it. The pulled pork was absolutely fantastic. Also barely used bbq sauce for it. Perfect on its own. The smoked turkey- I had hoped would come as a shredded turkey but it was sliced similar to deli meat. It was very tender, had a pink bark but due to the image id had in my mind of what I had wanted, it wasn’t as exciting. It did taste good- I ate it all and had nothing wrong with it. I just imagine smoke meat as a turkey leg.
The seating area was clean and tidy, employees were constantly ensuring it stayed in this state.
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful as well, cheerful and had great recommendations.
I really liked that this space had parking & wasn’t downtown In any difficult to access locations.
I enjoyed my meal and have good things to say about this smokehouse and...
Read moreI really WANT to write an upbeat, positive review of this place. We walked in, it was lively, clean, and spirits were high. The woman who took our order was nothing less than phenomenal. SO....That's the good...
Now let's talk about what really matters..the food..
We went around 5:30 -6:00, so dinner hour.
I got the 2 meat plate (18.69) chose brisket (extra fatty) and sausage. My sides were cream corn and green beans. The ONLY thing hot on my plate was the green beans. Everything else was LUKEWARM at BEST. Look my SINGULAR requirement when I go to a "smokehouse" or BBQ joint is that MY FOOD IS HOT. I don't need to see them pull it off a spit, but COME ON. The sausage was tender (win) but the main flavor was SALT. No taste of smoke, pepper or even garlic. Just salt. The Brisket melted in my mouth (win) and hat it been hot, would have had me twitterpated. The creamed corn, was also, lukewarm, which made the texture off. It had a good flavor, that I can tell SMACKS when hot, but alas, that was apparently to much to ask. The green beans were hot...and had me hot and bothered, loved them, and almost ordered more to go.
As far as my wife's Brisket Baked Potato (15.49). It was huge, it was hot, but it was mediocre. She wasn't impressed because her brisket was also Lukewarm.
That was the bad.....
Now for the UGLY......the bbq sauce...it tasted like liquid tomatoes sauce sugar and vinegar. No depth, no thickness, no smoke....no nothing else... we both went as far as wiping it off the...
Read moreWill absolutely not be back on account of the mediocre food and dishonest, dismal customer service. We placed a takeout order and discovered when when got home that NONE of the meals were correct. There were wrong sides on all three meals, two of the meals had the wrong meat and one of the meals (with the wrong meat) was the cheaper po’boy with one side when it was supposed to be an entree with two sides. And not a DROP of BBQ sauce in sight, even though we had specifically asked for it. Normally, I’m in that category that doesn’t need BBQ sauce, just beautifully smoked meat- but the brisket and sausage we had left a little to be desired. The food wasn’t awful, just less than expected. I did, however, really enjoy the creamed corn.
What was truly awful and the reason I will never return- when I called the restaurant upon discovering the errors I was transferred to a manager. She offered to replace two of the meals the next time we were there, so long as it was within a week and told me she was making a note of it somewhere so another manager would get the memo. Which would’ve been fantastic customer service if that’s what happened. Unfortunately, we just tried to return with our receipt from the botched meals and the manager on duty said she’d never heard of us and refused to attempt to find out anything further or offer some form of apology. I feel that we were dealt with dishonestly. I would not...
