I feel so lucky to have an amazing fitness studio like Total Body Training in San Antonio! First of all, I've gotten faster results at this gym than I've ever gotten before because of the unique training program, and I also feel more comfortable here than I have at other gyms b/c of the really welcoming and warm environment.
The program is great b/c even though it's a group class, each person is working at their own pace. At the beginning of each class, you pick up a tablet that has an app on it that you log into and it walks you through that day's workout. The coach is also there and they're too checking on everyone, correcting form, answering questions, motivating you, etc. Depending on your fitness level or certain areas you want to focus on, this is all customized to meet you where you're at. The workouts are on 6-week cycles so at the beginning you start with lighter weights and less sets to get comfortable with the exercises, then you build up to heavier weights and more sets over 5 weeks, then your last week is a recovery week where weights/sets decrease again. I love how this cycle makes it feel like you're always learning and growing without getting bored. Definitely a total body workout! And it never feels like any pressure to perform which is refreshing at a gym.
The gym environment itself is amazing. The owner, Jean Carlos, has done a recent remodel and the look and feel of the place is totally unique. The lighting is soft with patio string lights (so much better than fluorescent!), there's cool industrial art on the walls mixed with a relaxed nature vibe too, and even though it feels chill, the music is loud, which is great! Overall, the aesthetic really makes it feel like a special place and you know that the owner cares a lot about creating the best experience he can for his clients.
One thing to know is that this gym's focus is on strength training. There's no cardio, HIITs, or bootcamp type of stuff. I really appreciate not having to do burpees or feeling like I'm going to pass out like I did at other small group classes. If you want to firm up, learn proper technique, get some high quality fitness training while being supported by attentive, thoughtful, authentic coaches, this is definitely a place you should check out. Read moreI have been working out on and off since I was in high school so I am very familiar with gyms and fitness. So, when I came to Total Body Training I was expec!ng to experience the same old same old but let me tell you, Total Body Training, is much more than just a regular fitness facility.
With the help of Jean Carlos I was placed on plan which dras!cally improved my overall health and looks.My belly started to trim down and get a bit tighter which is exactly what I have been trying to accomplishfor years but couldn’t. All this is because Jean Carlos actually puts you on these really awesome 6 weeks strength and conditioning plans.
The studios and trainers that I worked out with in the past would just kind of give a general group workout without any true direc!on or customiza!on. With Total Body Training, we have customized plan that makes my workouts way easier to follow and all I had to do was s!ck with the workouts and then see results. I have seen a significant difference in my legs, thighs and abs since I started here. It is exactly what I was looking to accomplish.
I have had trainers in the past and they were okay but Jean Carlos is incredible. He has this motivating way of talking to myself and everyone here. He really cares about each and every person who comes to work out here. What I think I appreciate most is that he isn’t pushy with his training. He knows how to encourage you without intimidating you and that goes a long way.
Also, kudos to Total Body Training for having such a great environment to workout in. I never feel like any one is judging me. Everyone here is super nice and friendly.

Last January I was an avid runner, but running didn't exactly give me the strength and muscle tone that I wanted to see. When I joined Total Body Training, Jean Carlos pushed me to try new workouts. His workouts are dynamic, fun, and everyday is a different day. This makes the workouts fun and exciting, and definitely something to look forward to. Not only did I build strength and gain tone by weight lifting, but Jean Carlos also included workouts that are high intensity and kept me moving.
It has now been a year since I have been at Total Body Training, and I can say that I have seen a vast improvement not only on my body but with fitness as well. When I first began, I was lifting very light, but at the end of this year, I am now lifting at over a 100 lbs difference. Jean Carlos does an excellent job at encouraging me to work harder at my workouts, which has resulted in me feeling more confident.
I would encourage anyone to join his gym, because he offers what regular gyms don't have: dynamic workouts, a trainer that encourages you to work hard, and an environment where you feel comfortable to try your hardest. When I went to a regular gym, I was too afraid to try out new equipment or did not know about different workouts, at Total Body Training, I was given the change to really learn about fitness and pushed to try new things that I did not know I was capable of.
