Get comfortable for a complete and detailed post. blue without the E you know it is very striking, very chic & modern almost European. The best advertisement- the blue tower that lites lit up the sky, very subtle. They offer valet parking & garage. Beautiful entrance very regal European. Soaring racks of wine bottles & a cooler of wet aged steaks greet you! Several number hostesses, all wearing earpieces and dress very smartly. We were seated in the best table, booth along back with great views. Booths flank the perimeter of various sizes. In the front is bar & happy hour & bar seating is flanked with half wall & beautiful light posts. The bar is very European looking. The library ladders very high end & focal point of the bar was that of a woman with a crown. Rich colors of blue, black & gold. wow!! Ceiling. Of course, fine linen tablecloths & napkins. The vibe is European, but at the same time, very modern hip and New York-ish. You definitely go to Blu to be seen!!! Happy hour from 3 to 6 PM daily & they closed on Sundays. The back left side is the red wine cellar. This room is huge with tastings held here on the chilled gorgeous blu marble. with complete glass doors. They also have Wine locker membership. There is a 2nd wine cellar for whites. We were greeted by our section captain. Our server was Jesse completely amazing I knew right from the onset that he enjoyed his job and that he was very thorough and he knew each item on the menu by taste with very detailed information. Jesse also had a very good grasp on their very extensive wine list. It was a six page book, he recommended certain wines for the food that we wish to order. The place was really hopping. They had a flurry of Christmas parties, which didn’t feel like they were impeding on our experience, but yet there was a lot of chatter in the room so you knew it was a busy place. I started with the Crudo from the cold appetizers. It was very light and very flavorful. We also ordered the lamb lollipops from the hot appetizer menu and oh my goodness this is their stand out item. The sauce was with chilies had a jelly ketchup look to it, sweet, but still quite spicy. The Australian lollipop lamb was not gamy, very soft, cooked perfectly with an edge of fat. This was truly a meal in itself. We also ordered the blue wedge salad. This was amazing with the thick candied, bacon, the blue cheese chunks, as well as drizzled blue cheese throughout the wedge. The lobster bisque soup was one of my favorites. It’s a red bisque, but you can see the many chunks of very large lobster in it, and it is topped with an Italian parsley, which really gave it that freshness. The dinnerware they use is all handmade. You can tell black with that handmade pottery look and shapes. We ordered a bottle of Chianti - the Querciabella. It was perfect. I really love the attention to the detail. They gave us with the bread service and the wine. They always ask if they can decant it for you before you start drinking. Of course there was the presentation of the wet cork and he had me try it first. Choosing the entrée was so difficult I went with Jesse’s recommendation of the pork chop, and I am so glad I did. We also ordered the dry aged ribeye. They are known for wet aged/dry aged cuts of meat. Large portions! The pork chops sat on a roasted puréed bed of applesauce with paralyzed onions the pork chop coming from New Zealand has a sweetness to it and there is a glaze over the pork chop that makes it just the slight bit chard. The ribeye had a crunchy crustiness over the outside cooked medium, rate. The side of fingerlings & pork end in sauce was perfectly flavored. We finished with a cup of coffee and took our chocolate ganache torte cheesecake home with us! Again, the service was amazing with several folks stopping by we felt like we were all friends by the end. We never felt rushed, and it was just such a beautiful setting that we just enjoyed our dining experience. How can you go wrong with the best service, a little educational, amazing foods & edgy...
Read moreRepeat Offenders Alert 😁 This visit was to celebrate our young daughter’s Birthday. (Her choice) We had a wonderful evening celebrating her. Our service through our meal was excellent. Our server John, was very polite, helpful, and always made sure that we were enjoying our dinner and that the birthday girl had a memorable birthday experience. John went above and beyond to make her feel extra special. John had served us before, (same exceptional service), not only did he he remember us, but he also remembered exactly when (back in November, 9 months ago) and where we sat then. Talk about attention to detail! 😃 Our delicious meal consisted of a delicious Shrimp cocktail with plump, juicy shrimp, tender and flavorful. The shrimp are chilled to just the right temperature and served with a vibrant cocktail sauce, making it a perfect appetizer. To compliment our dinner we had the Blü Wedge Salad and Caesar Salad. A delicious tomahawk steak is a feast for the senses, starting with its impressive presentation. This massive, bone-in ribeye is perfectly marbled. The steak is seasoned simply, allowing the natural beef flavors to shine. Grilled to a perfect medium-rare, with a juicy, pink center. The charred exterior contrasts beautifully with the tender, buttery meat inside. it’s served with the bone, adding to its visual appeal. Each bite is savory, succulent, and deeply satisfying. Along with it we enjoyed some rich & buttery bone marrow. A side of creamy & perfectly cooked Lobster mac & cheese and halved and roasted Brussels sprouts, caramelized with crispy edges, full of flavor. Our drinks were on point, we had Spicy Guava with a hot kick, Chocolate martini, espresso martini, and my favorite drink currently, coffee banana bruleé, brugal 1888 aged rum, mr. black amaro, creme de cacao, aztec chocolate bitters, fresh banana cream top. Each sip is creamy, smooth, and has a perfect balance of sweetness and rich coffee flavor, making it a satisfying after dinner treat. And to finalize, birthday cake! John delivered to our table a rich, tall, dark, multi layered of chocolate cake with a candle as we began singing Happy Birthday! 🎉 Every visit whether its been for lunch, or bar, or to celebrate a special occasion we have always enjoyed our dining experience. Special thanks to ALL of the restaurant staff, as each member plays an integral part in creating an exceptional dining experience.
11/2023 - We've had the pleasure of dining at numerous upscale steakhouses, both in San Antonio and other major cities. My personal expectations are usually quite high. However, our visit to Blü Prime Steakhouse on the evening of 11/2/23 exceeded all expectations. We were celebrating my 50th birthday, and although it was only the restaurant's second day of operation, I decided to take a chance, and I'm thrilled that I did. Our dining experience was exceptional from start to finish. Walking in felt like we were transported to another city. A beautiful design, color scheme, furniture, and lighting that exuded sophistication. The ambiance was great and made us feel as if we were dining in a high-end restaurant in cities like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, or New York City. Let's talk about the service. As soon as we were seated, the Dining Room Captain, Matthew, introduced himself, followed by our attentive and friendly server, John. Another captain, Justin, also came by to introduce himself, and the courteous supporting wait staff periodically checked on us throughout the evening. The friendly faces approaching our table to offer service, pour wine, and ensure our comfort added to the overall pleasant experience. Chef George even made a visit to inquire about our satisfaction with our steaks and sides, which was a nice touch. The Lump Crab Cake with cilantro lime aioli, Creamy Lobster bisque with chopped lobster tail, Wedge Salad with candied bacon and roquefort crumble, and Lobster Mac & Cheese were all incredibly delicious. Our 16 oz medium rare Ribeye was cooked to perfection, and it was a highlight...
Read moreChose Blü for our anniversary dinner. Had been craving steak for awhile. Was truly looking forward to eating here. Overall the experience was nice. The rating is based on the steak alone.
We started the evening with Old Fashions. Well done, excellent. Order taken. Shared a lobster bisque and the pork belly in order to save tummy space for the good stuff. Decided to go Tomahawk steak, 44 oz, with a crab oscar add on to share. For sides we went with brussel sprouts, broiled mushrooms, and grilled asparagus. Three of us shared.
Truly the service was amazing. When the pork belly came out we were in heaven, delicious. Was looking forward to the rest of the meal. Lobster bisque came out and once again, perfect. And then we waited for our steak! And then we waited. And we waited. And waited some more.
The service was on point. At first the chef and one of the managers came out to explain that the steak was thick and needed some additional time. We appreciated the heads up and we're having a nice conversation as a family. Then we waited. Eventually another manager came out and offered us all a small glass of red wine. Nice gesture, but it was small, the serving. However, nice to be checked on.
And then we waited some more. Eventually the rest of our meal was brought out and we were excited. It was nicely plated on a board because of the size. Immediately the first thing we noticed was that it was cooked slightly past medium. We had requested medium. The worst part was that when we cut into our first slice and tasted it, the meat was room temperature, no heat whatsoever. Confusing because they spent all the additional time making sure it was cooked. The taste was bland at best. Very disappointing, and it being our anniversary dinner we didn't want to make a stink, so we ate a bit and took the rest home. Definitely did not want to send it back as we had no idea how much longer it would take to cook another steak and we had already waited more than necessary. Couldn't guarantee that another small serving of red wine would be offered.
That said, the mushrooms were perfect, the brussel sprouts were so flavorful, and the asparagus was definitely a nice add-on. However this is not a restaurant that has built its reputation on its side dishes. Its name sake, Blü STEAKHOUSE, was not worth the $180 price of the poorly prepared steak. It did taste much better the next day with eggs and heated.
All said, the service was great, and the rest of the food that we ate was on point. However, we did not go here for the sides, we came for the steak. We did leave slightly disappointed with the food because of that. Good night out with the family either way. Have told you a few friends that have eaten here before about our meal. All of them said we should have returned the steak,...
