An old brick chalet built by La Cosa Nostra is the vibe for Gay's (the owner) Italian retreat. This is a two story dining room with huge, ominous looking mafia family type pictures in sepia tones on the wall that give one the feeling that Big Brother is watching. It's a guardedly comfortable somewhat dark dining room with white table cloth seating upstairs and down with patio tables all in a row bistro style just outside the main door. There is even a secret garden with fountain in the back with just a few tables for a less watched feeling while you dine among the greenery and tinkling water sound.
Yes. Pizzas are served here like the other Capparelli locations. However, the more upscale atmosphere makes you feel guilty unless your are ordering something a little more Italian sounding with lots of double consonants and maybe a little more expensive. That is not to say that they don't have the usual lasagna and spaghetti and meatballs, however. Actually, my wife ordered the chicken lasagna with alfredo sauce and I the veal piccata (see; look at those double Cs). Caesar and house salads were fresh and well dressed. Complimentary garlic bread was warm and pungent, but not so robust as to wake the dead and kill vampires.
The lasagna was not your usual layered type. It was a couple of noodle sheets over-stuffed with chicken and artichoke pieces then smothered in alfredo. The chefs deviation from the traditional was not necessarily off-putting, but the not-so-tender chicken and overly salty alfredo were. Nicest of the nice, the waitress asking after our satisfaction would not be ignored once she learned of my wife's displeasure. Her insistence to replace the dish was an offer that could not be refused. So my wife chose cheese tortellini in a sugarosa (tomato and cream) sauce with side meatball in red sauce and was happy with the forthcoming replacement.
The veal was a similar story and although the lemon-butter-caper sauce was good, the small solitary piece of veal must have been cooked just a little too long. I could barely cut it with a fork which is my usual tenderness measure for tender veal. I elected not to upset the godfather staring at us from the far wall and ate my veal and side of linguine with a proper slurp or two. It's not that they couldn't give me what I wanted. I just figured that I was not unsatisfied enough to have a horse lose his head over it.
I am sure we will give this nicely appointed restaurant another try when we are in the mood for another go-round at double consonant loaded Italian named dishes and a ring...
Read moreMy personal experience today at capparelli's on Main was an experience. I was not too happy overall. When I walked through the doors I was greeted with a confused looked regarding my presence there. Not sure if it was based off of what I was wearing or just because I didn't have a blazer jacket as a server walked me down to the table. I sat down with discomfort. The area smelled congested and the fragrance in the air was very unpleasant and on top of that I waited twice as long for my food than I should have. As I received my food, I debated whether or not I should eat on the patio or continue eating inside as I choose. I was looked at with confusion with only ordering one thing from the menu as I received my food. It looked very delicious. It smelled very good but the environment was still very unpleasant. I've been to the other capparelli's the one on the north side, the one on the southeast side and the one on 281 my experience is that every other location is have absolutely fantastic. The staff is fantastic. The food is fantastic and the atmosphere is fantastic. I wanted to give the one on main an opportunity since I live in downtown my experience was a 180 It definitely was not what I was expecting. I decided to get my food to go and enjoy it somewhere else I wasn't even asked why I made a change of decision towards taking my food to go. I would simply handed the check as if I was being shown out the door so I decided to go where I felt more comfortable and my honest opinion. Maybe it's just me. Maybe I was just not comfortable with the atmosphere in that location but the servers and every other location were a different experience. It doesn't matter what capparelli's you go to. The food will always be delicious. They strive for fantastic results. Regarding the staff, i will say there is a difference if I was ever asked which caparelli's should I go to? I would always recommend every single one except for the one on main The food's delicious. The atmosphere is different compared to the other capparelli's. Again, it's my opinion. Doesn't make it true but I did leave. What I want to leave is an honest review on my personal experience so if anyone is misguided at least they have a chance at saying hey, Maybe I should rather go to a...
Read moreI was here for a new church leader event, this restaurant is down the road from a lot of bars and businesses where we have a lot of events both for my LGBT groups at my church.
I had never been here before I like the mom and pop vibe. But not sure if it's for me for a repeat.
I walked in the door and stood in the doorway with another couple of ladies that had come in before me. Nobody was at the door to greet us or acknowledge us even. Not until a fourth person walked in behind me part of my party, was going to proceed up the stairs on her own, before a server mentioned that we were upstairs.
The way they line tables up in one big row back to back behind each other was not convenient for anybody in the room. Anywhere that tables overlapped we were obviously too many people for the space.
I know I'm probably one of only two people in the entire restaurant that walked in with a mask on, and that should have at least been acknowledged because the server kept hovering and reaching over me and passed me speaking to other people over my head.
Everything from the salad to the main course had so much water and steam from the plates sitting, that my food was wet. The salad was wet, the bread sticks were undercooked or burnt on one end. Like if somebody put the bread on a griddle that wasn't hot enough yet and then cranked it up when they realized it. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the food because it wasn't worth posting anywhere. The upside is the portions were very generous so I felt at least maybe I got my money's worth for a meal I didn't pay for haha
Because of the weird strip mall Corner situation with some sort of a shelter or church on the opposite corner, check all your parking signs because you'll get towed real quick in that area. It's not clear where you can park for...
