Magnolia Gardens on Main — Attraction in San Antonio

I’ll start off by saying, the venue is beautiful and the food very delicious, the wait staff very professional…Now the reason for the low rating..we first saw the venue and loved it, Annie, who was the POC (point of contact) at the time very helpful and what we thought, at the time, very professional…we made our down payment, and had to continue with thing’s through text. Because of my work schedule.. she sent me linen colors, I made my choice and it was supposed to have been put in my file.. I had guests with food allergies and had told her to leave the chipotle sauce off of two plates and I also wrote that down when we circled our food choices during the tasting, so I know that was in my file. I scheduled an appointment to create a timeline, she took most of my appointment time on the phone with her daughter going over baby shower plans! She rushed us through the appointment because she had another appointment immediately after mine. Then 2 WEEKS before our wedding, we found out Annie left the company. We were given the phone to the venue owner, Gonzalo and he scheduled an appointment he next day for us to go see him. We found out, Annie didn’t write our linen choices down and she didn’t tell him we had hired a coordinator, he said she told him there were 6 couples who hired coordinators but she had forgotten the name of one couple, and that couple was us. We sent a copy of the receipt to Gonzalo, who told us we would have a coordinator. During this time, my now husband and I tried several times to get in touch with Gonzalo who was always in another country. When we did finally get in touch with him, he said he would have Annie call us for the name of our coordinator. (At this point all confidence in the venue was gone). Now the day of the wedding, we get there at 7:30 am (morning wedding) the tables were set up and beautiful, but there were still decorations up from the event the night before, confetti was still on the floor and it was freezing in the building! My then fiancée noticed the trash wasn’t emptied nor were the chairs set up outside for the gazebo. After multiple calls and texts to the owner, he said he wanted to see if we still wanted the wedding outside due to the cold and because it was a weather related issue, we were not issued a refund for the gazebo (an extra cost). Some one finally gets there to finish removing the previous decoration.. our decorator showed up late (also an extra charge), found out our decorator is also our coordinator and Annie’s daughter, who was supposed to have had a lot of experience…Not! After the wedding, I had to coordinate with my Karaoke Jockeys to get things started. We were told that any extra plates (we paid for 30 meals) would be boxed up and given to us which DID NOT HAPPEN! Would I recommend this venue? On the beautiful setting yes, but on the professional ability of the owner and office...

I used this place for my wedding reception and I will start with the good things. The venue is beautiful and fits quite a large number of people comfortably. It is an easy 1 stop shop as linens, caterer, and bar are all in 1. The food is pretty good as well and the wait staff was nice. Now the negatives. I was told since there was an event the day before that the building “can be opened at any time” the day of so that I could drop of decor and my wedding cake. It was agreed upon 9 am. The day of comes and it is not opened. I was told they don’t normally open until an hour before. How can vendors barely deliver and decorate an hour before. My family waited outside for 2 hours and due to the humidity and heat my cake was destroyed. When someone did arrive to let the kitchen staff in they ignored my family and would not let them in. It took multiple phone calls from me to get results. Not something I should’ve had to deal with on my wedding day. They also lost my cake topper and never told me about the bridal suite. I had to tell them several times in the planning process that the ceremony was somewhere else and that it was only for the reception. They lost the original timeline we sat down and discussed as well. It was agreed I would hire the officer due to the serving of alcohol then they began to ask the officer to direct traffic outside. The officer was hired because of the bar not to direct traffic; which was not discussed previously. I would’ve hired another officer to direct traffic had they discussed that with me. Their systems are antiquated and leave too much room for human error. There were 2 separate occasions where they “lost” my payments and I had to provide proof of payment. I was very disappointed and was completely destroyed to see my wedding cake in salvageable. This is absolutely not a venue for...

The service fell far below expectations. They reel you in with all these promises that fall flat on your wedding day. Nothing that was promised was delivered. The serving staff was better than the owner and event coordinator. Promises of a full bar, security, and left over food to go did not happen. Only when we complained that we would leave a bad review did we receive about 15 to go plates when apparently they had zero to begin with. A menu of 8 bottles to choose from is not a full bar. Sound system for the aisle was not ready and delayed the event. We requested patron tequila and all we were told was that it was in the back.. not once did anyone attempt to retreive it to serve.. Dance floor nails damaged and tore the brides $2000+ dress as well as guest shoes. When we tried to address the issues we were told there was no one available to speak to because the owner was jumping between events. We were told there would be serving utensils for the cake cutting and to save our money. When the time came we were given a plastic set to cut with which barely even cut the cake. It was embarrassing. I would have gladly purchased my own had I not been given false information. The dinner course was also incomplete as we were missing sides. On top of that it was delayed for nearly an hour. Our event also required security but that was never taken care of. The owner did issue us a refund for that but it doesn't make up for anything else.
