My mom recently went with my family. The lady that served them was immediately rude and obviously didn't want to be there. They ordered and noticed that the soup and the rice were completely different and saw flies or some type of bug in the food which the lady tried to brush off as "just fruit flies".. while going through it with her fingers in front of them. We also found out that the old owner sold the restaurant. Which made complete sense. He was amazing and genuinely cared about the customers and food quality. Rewriting this review to say that we did say we would pay for the drinks but obviously we aren't paying for the horrible service and food. They hardly even touched the food so please don't act like we were just trying to get a free plate. The lady insisted "no you go you no want pay you go" so they left. You can't even address the food quality? Or how their experience was because you know you're in the wrong. Then y'all are going to reply to my comment with just a rude reply without saying anything else?? That's crazy. Never coming back again! And will tell everyone I know not to as well. We used to come here all the time during Covid and it was my Mom's favorite place to eat at until this experience.

What To Order: Combination Dinner. Sesame Chicken Chin San has some excellent items, one of my favorites is the sesame chicken. I've tried a few items over my visits, some were excellent, some not that great. But I once took several combination plates back to an office, and everyone commented they should have just ordered the sesame chicken and nothing else, and it has remained my absolute favorite. I've eaten inside Chin San, as well as placed orders to go, and the time from order to table or pickup is always surprisingly fast. Its a great place for a quick lunch if your in the area. Dinner combinations are around $8 and include fried or steamed rice, family orders $10, and lunch specials $6-7 with soup, rice, and appetizer. Portion sizes are good, and very filling. If your looking for a new Chinese place, try Chin San, its quick, cheap and they have a few amazing items. I had posted a negative review post Covid shutdown and the food has since improved.

Finally decided to give this place a try after reading all of the positive reviews and was very disappointed. We ordered the fried dumplings, egg drop soup, combo lo mein, General Tso's chicken, and Mongolian beef. The dumplings were decent. The egg drop soup (pictured below) had good broth but barely any egg. The combo lo mein had a very bland flavor and was mostly fettuccine pasta. The General Tso's chicken (pictured below) had good flavor but was mostly breading. And lastly the Mongolian beef (pictured below), was by far the worst that I have ever had in my life. It was no where close to what it's supposed to be and was more like a soup. I ended up just throwing everything away. Maybe the kitchen staff was new or off their game tonight, but either way I feel like I just wasted $40. Save your money and just make own Chinese food.

** Updated August 2021- The recipe for the sesame beef has changed. It was not edible. We will not be coming back and it’s a shame because you can see from belong- this used to be our favorite Chinese food place!

My husband and I have tried dozens of Chinese restaurants and while they were all very good ChinSan is the absolute best. The food, customer service, even the cook and cashier come out to the dining room to help and say hi to the customers. I want to start with the customer service because that’s really what makes or breaks a restaurant. There are two servers one female and one male. I have not had the chance to get their names. They are the only servers that work there. They are the epitome of teamwork. They help each other with everything, drinks, soups, refills, pre bussing and getting the check. Always smiling and saying thank you!! They are both so extremely well mannered!

Now on to the best part! This Chinese food is hands down the best in all of San Antonio. Me and hubby are foodies and have tried places hours away and always come back here. They have their wonton soup down to a science. The thing is that theirs no pork in the soup and it’s still 100 times better that the ones with pork! They have that soup base recipe down!! Same thing for the rice. No veggies but still- the best flavors I’ve ever had!! Now on to their entrees! The amount of food. They really give you a lot and it’s well worth the money. I never leave full and I’m always satisfied. The food is absolutely divine! The sesame beef is our favorite and when we go they already know what we want to order (unless we change it which is rare) The brown sauce is the best I’ve had, their pan fried dumplings are delicious and their sweet and sour is fried perfectly! This is and always will be our number one go to spot for the best chines food in...

I really hate to write a review where I didn't get to experience the entire moment. Well, I called this restaurant to place an order I was hung up on. I called back & the male person said, "I don't answer the phone if the number is blocked". yes I do block my number because I have called a wrong number and I was harassed by the wrong number & had to pay to get it changed. I totally understand that the business can get similar calls. A business or person will never know what the caller wants unless they answer the phone. All he had to say once he found out I wanted to place an order was we Don't take orders from private number instead of hanging up on me the first time. I went to the restaurant and spoke to the male who hung up on me to express my opinion. Apparently, the is a family owned business. He laughed in my face, refused to give me the owners name & said, Why you have your face covered & elderly & disabled which is called being DISCRIMINATORY. I wear a mask for the same reason many other people do. They have a COVID sticker with a mask on their front door...Why? Because COVID is still active. Any one can have grey hair at any age & I used a walking stick for a drop foot I got after a car accident which was no business of his & should have never been brought up. when I mentioned to the male he needed to go back to China he called me a racist. Then he proceeded to get the customers involved by telling me to ask them.thei thoughts of the situation. I got in touch with the owner's brother and we spoke. He allow the male to continue to put his two cents. I refused the takeout and asked for a refund which I received. I told the brother I will not be returning for the way I was embarrassed, humiliated and...

I gotta say I'm truly upset with this place when it has been hyped up for me many times. Or maybe today just wasn't their day.

I placed a pick up order and had no idea when to pick up.

When I got to the restaurant I informed them "I'm here to pick up food, just not sure if it's ready since I wasn't given a time".

I was responded with "oh I said 10 minutes " to what I never heard once. Okay may have been mis communication issue.

Upon arriving home my food was soggy tasteless and nowhere near to what I was expecting. Keep in mind I had asked for extra crispy on my sesame chicken and the person taking my order convinced me on the Crispy Beef plate too. since my expectations was to get crispy yummy food.

Well all my food was no where near crispy. My egg drop soup tasted super sour.

I called the Restaurant back and told them "hey my food is not anywhere near to how it was expected" went on and explained my reasonings.

To what I got "well when you mix sauces with crispy food it will get like that soft and soggy".

Well than don't advertise it as "CRISPY BEEF" if it's not going to be crispy!!

I don't know just made my whole experience bad. As far as the egg drop soup he was willing to change it out for me but was it really going to be worth my drive to go get it if my other food was horrible.... nope!

I gave this review 2 stars since the Kung pow chicken I ordered hasn't been tasted yet since it's not mine. But my other 2 plates weren't great.

Maybe to enjoy the full experience one should dine in not have it be picked up...
