This is my new Holy Grail of flour tortillas. You can see where they had puffed up and left those little brown marks on those beautiful thick fluffy tortillas. My grandmother and my mother made tortillas just like this. This place is not near me but I will definitely go there again. When the tortillas are this good you just want to sit down with a stick of butter and a stack of tortillas. Okay that sounds wrong and I can't do that but that's what I want to do LOL. Carne guisada was not my favorite, I'm a friend of the brown gravy carne guisada. This is a little bit on the red side but still really good and the meat was incredibly tender. My friend ordered the nachos, and like always I wanted the nachos then LOL. They gave you a nice wallop of guacamole, the chips were nice and thick and held up well and the cheese was well, cheesy. I tried the Mexican plate. Looks like their taco shell for the crispy Taco is made in house, delish, the picadillo was really good. Enchiladas don't use red tortillas, so if you're that person don't order the enchiladas. But as far as beef enchiladas go, they were very good. It's probably all in my head but without the red tortilla it just becomes a soft rolled taco lol. And if you like your food piping hot, and i do, you will love burning your mouth on this yum wrapped food. Tea was great, good enough to get to go. And the service was excellent. Very friendly staff. This friend and I are already making plans for breakfast! Ill be dreaming about...
Read moreYou ever been on Walzem with your wife, turn and ask "what would you like to eat??!!!" and get the HR Salute 🤷🏽♀️ followed up with "it doesn't matter"? That's what led me to Cristian's! Looked back at my phone, opened Google Maps, typed "chalupa", 4.4 stars let's go!
For a Sunday, pretty packed, lots of activity with people going in and others leaving with to go bags in hand. Walked in and was greeted by a young woman and man at the front desk with big smiles. I'm lying I definitely wanted to call them grandpa and grandma. I enjoyed watching them interact with the costumers that were entering, exiting and getting To Go plates.
As much as I enjoyed the atmosphere and service which both get a 5 star from me the food falls short to 3 stars but my overall rating 4 star experience.
Got the Beef Chalupa plate and one Chicharron taco. Got home opened up the bag, no utensils, all good got my own. Opened the box, no beef on Chalupas shxx I'm hungry, take a bite... damn, not seasoned. Added some salt, pepper and Sazon. Opened up the fresh tortillas and tore that shxx up! Their Tortillas are...
Read moreThis place had decent food that came out fast but I likely won't come back here. It was very busy so I understand their system, but they cook things separately ahead of time to make it easier to push out dishes. However this sacrifices the quality of the food and the authenticity. For example, I asked for huevos rancheros so they brought me regular eggs and gave me ranchero sauce on the side. My family from Mexico traditionally cooks the egg within the sauce so it absorbs the flavor so it was disappointing to see that they didn't do that. My husband got migas but they forgot to cook it with onion and the tortilla strips in it were too hard to enjoy. I enjoyed the flavor of the food enough but their green sauce is kinda bland and requires salt. Their tortillas aren't bad but I don't love them enough to come back.
Overall give it a try since they're popular for a reason. It's just not authentic enough for me, especially since I'm from Mexico and can cook these dishes more traditionally the...
