Dave's Hot Chicken — Restaurant in San Antonio

Wanted to finally stop in and see what the hype was. Got the Double Slider, one Hot and the other Reaper. Staff was friendly and order was fresh and served quickly.

The Dave's sauce is awesome, personally love crinkle fries and these were excellent too. As for the Hot sandwitch slider, finally a place that says hot and you get hot. Super flavorfull with the right amout of heat you would expect as opposed to other places that say spicy and you feel barely nothing. If you are one for causal, hot is the perfect balance, extra hot if you really wanted a good spicy hit. Will come back again for more for sure!

For the Reaper, this is not a criticism only an option, to share my experience. No stranger to pushing my limits with spicy, in my history there is always a balance to hit with spice thats painful. You usually get it with flavour that makes you keep wanting more or it gets overshadowed and you get none, it is pure pain. This was unfortunately neither. If you have had Da Bomb hot sauce it is similar experience, where its painful for sure but taste is just...awefull. The chemical reaction leaves nothing but a bitter flavor of pure capsaicin concentrate, and it is not pleasant tasting at all. I would skip this sandwich only due to that. Pain it delivers what it strives for.. So painful you definitely will be wishing for the reaper haha. But the pain isn't what held me back for going for more bites, the awefull flavor covering anything of what it was supposed to taste like did. So the Reaper, can't recommend at all.

I was excited that my family and I decided on Dave's Hot Chicken. Upon entering the establishment I noticed there was not too many people. That's always a good thing. We found a great spot to sit and eat. There was no waiting in line. That's a plus. The fountain drink machines ice dispenser was out of service. So getting ice took a minute or two. No big deal. I had no issue ordering for myself and my son. The menu did exactly what it is designed to do. I wasn't confused and I understood all the contents. I went with Dave's # 4. I ordered the Hot level. My son ordered the no spice. The experience inside was wonderful and we felt comfortable. I didn't keep track of how long it took for our food to be ready. I can assure you that it wasn't very long. The presentation of my chicken slider was awesome. I have not experienced a chicken slider like this one before. It looked amazing. The redness that it had. It was crispy and the sauce was spread on top. I had to snap a quick photo. The french fries also looked very delicious. I was pleased with how everything tasted. I even ate some of my sisters chicken tender. The writing on the napkins was very cool to read. I liked the idea. We all talked and conversated back and forth. Time just flew by. The restroom even had decorations. I was totally surprised. I walked around and looked at different parts of the restaurants theme. Very interesting and creative. Since this place is still very new and it's the only location currently in San Antonio so I stood in line outside and inside for a combined time of twenty mins before getting to order. But once we sat down the food came out quickly. Wow the wait was completely worthwhile. You get a lot of food for the price point and the quality is awesome. Each individual chicken strip is huge - I got the two tenders with fries and could only eat one and half tenders so I took the other half home to eat later. Being able to specify the heat level is SO cool. I got Lite Mild but it was still a tad too hot for me so I'll be getting No Spice next time. My husband got Medium level spice and said it was perfect. The dipping sauce is the best dipping sauce I've ever had! (I love you Raising Canes but I found a new favorite dipping sauce and honestly this place was so much cheaper than Canes.) My husband didn't really like the dipping sauce but I thought both the chicken and the fries were so good with and without the sauce. The only thing I didn't like was that there weren't drinks included with the combo/meal and the cashier didn't ask if we wanted drinks. The vibes were chill and the music wasn't too loud. All the employees were friendly and seemed happy to see each customer. I will definitely return but I'll wait a few months so hopefully the hype dies down a little and it's not a twenty minute wait to order. But this is an excellent addition to San Antonio's fast food...
