Revisited J. Alexander's on a Wednesday, 5/15. The restaurant wasn't as busy tonight. We were seated promptly and greeted by our server. She took our drink orders, then disappeared for a while before returning with our drinks. We had some questions about items on the menu, which she was unfamiliar with. We tend to build some patience with new wait staff, but after this visit, I'm afraid they released this young lady a little too soon. The food and order were correct and normal J. Alexander's good. The server was courteous and professional but just not attentive. All my previous rating and comments still stand, I would lower my service rating from 5 stars to 3.5 - 4.
Either way, this is still a place you want to try, and hopefully, you will have an enjoyable experience.
December 2023 ≈=========== Revisited this establishment. Our group of 4 was not disappointed. Our wait person was Vanessa. She was attentive, courteous, and professional. Our orders were confirmed and prepared as requested. My guests order the children's prime rib and me the steak brazzos.
My assessment from August of this year is still the same.
I've added some additional pictures and hope your experience is as good as ours.
From August 2023
You can not go wrong, stopping in at this local establishment to enjoy a well cooked steak, nice mahogany wood surrounding you, and excellent service.
We stopped in today for lunch to celebrate someone's birthday. We were quickly seated in Geri's section. She greeted us, verified everyone had menus, and took our presented drink orders. After enough time had passed, she took our main course orders and kept our drinks topped off. Our food was delivered when it was ready, and he steaks were cooked to perfection. Some in our party had prime rib, while others had the filet medallions on a bed if mash potatoes covered with mushroom sauce (Steak Brazzos).
We opted to celebrate by ordering the desert she recommended, called Powerful Stuff. OMG, you need to save some room to try this desert (it is seasonal, so beware it may not always be available)
I highly recommend you try this place, and I hope your experience will be as good as mine.

Read moreIt was our first time here and if it could have gone wrong, it did go wrong. But this place is top notch and they did everything they could to make it the best experience. Our waiter was brand new and he didn't know much about the menu which is fine. He got the information we were wanting and made great recommendations. I ordered the tuna burger and it was way too salty for me. When our waiter came back to check on everything, I told him it was "ok". I wasn't going to cause a fuss over some salt but he pressed a bit further to find out how to make it excellent. He let the chef know what I said and he came out to apologize and offered to make me a new one or to replace it with a different dish. I was happy to wait for the same food I ordered and the second time it was perfect! My boyfriend's food was delicious as well. Everyone was very accommodating and wanted us to have a good experience. They were the most professional staff I've encountered in a long time. I say this because while they were tending to every table and guest like they were the only customer there, the fire alarm started going off because there was a grease fire in the kitchen. Once they got that under control, the power went out. With the power going out, this caused their POS to go down and they were unable to process payments for about 20 minutes while they got everything rebooted. Having all of this happen within 45 minutes to an hour could cause even the most seasoned staff to be at least frazzled and stressed. If they were, no one could tell even the tiniest bit. The food is delicious, but it doesn't outshine the fantastic staff and management. I'd be happy to go back and to...
Read moreI’d be remiss if I didn’t start this review by complimenting the service. We went in the evening during peak dinner hours, and Brennon did an amazing job. His explanation of the daily specials and his menu recommendations were very welcome, and he was absolutely on point with everything from refills to clearing used dishes (he said, and I quote, “that’s the last time I let you go dry tonight” after I finished my first cola rather quickly—and by God he meant it, as I had full glasses for the rest of the evening). An absolute treat for our first time visiting.
As for the food, it was very good, though the appetizers and side dishes really stole the show for us. Definitely recommend the deviled eggs if you’re stuck on what to order, and the chilled orzo and wild rice would probably pair well with just about anything on the menu (it’s mixed with cranberries and greens and is just so good).
Our entrees were the seared ahi tuna and steak burger, and both were very good! The tuna was served as two steaks, and the only real nitpick we could give was that one was more well done than the other. The steak burger was cooked excellently, though it could have used just a little more seasoning on the meat.
We had the carrot cake for dessert, which was absolutely excellent. The frosting was not too sweet, and the cake was thick yet fluffy. Definitely suited for two people, and was honestly rich enough to split three ways.
All in all, a very good experience at maybe just a little too high a price point. Everything felt about $5 too expensive for what it was, but the service totally makes...
