I had been coming to raw hair studio for the last couple of years and had a few appointments within that time frame. The first 3 visits were amazing and I had the best experiences, that's why I had kept coming back. The following about a year ago had a bit of an unfortunate incident that the stylist who was obviously new kinda messed up my haircut and wasn't really sure what she was doing. I was understanding and another stylist ended up guiding her on how to cut my hair and then basically took over. I didn't like feeling like I was a guinea pig or at a salon school, but I was given a discount for the mishap and didn't go back until last week. I called to set up an appointment for a hair color consultation after seeing on their fb page that it was a free consultation. Was a bit shocked when they asked for my credit card with it being free so I had to call back since I didn't have it on me. When I called back I asked to make sure it was the one advertised and she said yes, that the $30 would be refunded from the price of the coloring when I pay. Ok fine, btw I find it very odd that now I have to pay in advance for a service I have yet to receive, they didn't do that before. So at my consultation I told the stylist what I was wanting and showed her pictures of the color and length that I wanted. She asked me questions for their survey and said she'd come back with some quotes. When she came back she had brought a few products with her which she began telling me about and suggesting I buy them, mind you I haven't even heard the quotes yet. She pulls out the card and gives me the price rundown with ONE price quote, not multiples despite there being boxes for several options, just one and it was way over what I was expecting the cost to be. My hair is not long, it wasn't even below my shoulder and the undercut area was even shorter as the main length was just a small section of the top of my head. I was taken aback and just listened to her explain that she included 2 color sessions which she hadn't mentioned before leaving. I just was not happy with how that appointment went at all, I don't like feeling pressured to buy products especially before I hear how much my hair color is going to cost, with had I had gotten all the products offered would have been over $500, no I'm not expecting $60 color job, but $200 yes. I went to another salon and I'm glad I did, it came out perfect and exactly how I wanted it done and didn't break the bank. Sadly I won't be coming back and I'm out my $30 that was...
Read moreMy story is too long. Believe it or not this is the short version. I had to reassure the person that was supposed to cut my hair that it was okay to cut it, CUT IT. This is very annoying for a patron. She was very nice, but why am I having to coddle this person?! Several times, several times I said "yes I'm sure." "Hair grows back." I'm blind w/o my glasses. I wasn't wearing contacts. I told her I'm a wash n go gal who rarely used products. She said, "but you do use products?" 🙄 "RARELY, maybe twice a year." I ended up w/ an over STYLED head of hair with an abundance of hair products. My head felt heavy later in the day from all the disgusting gunk in my hair. I did not receive a genuine hairCUT. She swept before I could reach for my glasses so I didn't see how little she snipped off of my head.🤔 Sneaky. I just wanted to treat myself for my birthday. Disaster. And this was after an attempt to rectify my 1st unpleasant visit. By the way the gal that was unpleasant at the 1st visit was stalking me & the person servicing me. Everywhere we went, there she was. Eavesdropping? Learning how to interact w/ ppl? Very creepy. I did not appreciate being used to "teach" her via my interactions with the "pro". And they all knew I wanted her nowhere near me. I think having her shadow us upsets me more than anything else. It's taunting & insulting. Even after this bad guidance I will say two of the owners & the manager (but even she made a mistake re: the extra feature I wanted to buy) are very nice. But I didn't want to go a 3rd time. I became fed up & bored with Raw. I ended up cutting & coloring my own hair & I love it. I even get...
Read moreGood haircut and highlights - terrible communication about the cost. If you want to spend lots of money on your curly hair for a good cut - not amazing, not great, this is the place to go. Don't expect clear communication about the pricing. Instead of being told what I was going to pay, I was asked twice if I had read the website. The website includes photos, and four tabs. One of the tabs is services and that does include pricing.
The fault is mine for not reading more carefully. That being said, the person doing my service literally never said a number. If you are willing to charge that much, you should be willing to say it out loud to your client.
I was told I had to submit a deposit for half of my appointment. When I looked back, I only had to submit a deposit of $89 which was half of my $178 for partial highlights.
This didn't help me to realize I'd be charged an extra $550 for my haircut. It was a cruel shock to leave with my hair looking nice to realize my total for the day was $728.
Again, the fault is mine for not reading all of the website more carefully, but I hope no one else has to have this cruel shock. This salon is not willing to use spoken words to convey their fees. You will only get this information from the website. This is a shocking lack of professionalism and courtesy.
Edited after the cut grew out from three stars to 1 star.
The cut turned out to be uneven and the color brassy. My next hair person was surprised by how uneven the back was. Despite the normal curly differences the left and right sides of the back were off by...
