I had to, just had to. On my own again unsupervised and alone, the wife dropped off to work I was on a journey to finally put something to bed that I had waited far too long to see put to fruition.
Like The final scene in Godfather part Two. It was something he regretted to do, but knew it had to be done.
Unlike that very gruesome analogy my dilemma was relatively an easy one.
I was on the search for the perfect plate of Pancakes.
A journey I started on three days ago, and was distracted by, very delicious distractions I might add, Huevos Rancheros, rice beans and tortillas. All of which a growing precocious 50something man needs to survive the rough city streets.
I am not really sure why I needed pancakes of all things, I mean I could have just as easily whip up my own batch, and be done with it. But I wanted to experience, well like going home again. Like seeing my Mom's face when I walked through the door. The smells that filled the house from her kitchen, really should be bottled and sold.
But with the house long sold and Mom passing away almost ten years ago, I have to find that feeling again. The feeling of bliss that only a warm plate of fluffy pancake goodness can bring.
So finding the pancakes that I remember her cooking, to me is priceless. It's my way of saying, mom it really is going to be ok.
I was going to go to the pancake House known internationally but on the way something caught my eyes, a name....Judy....my mom's name. And seeing the packed parking lot, standing room only, and throngs of hungry pilgrims on a quest to fill their bellies, like I was, it was a no brainier.
First thing I noticed was that people were getting food to go. Standing at the outside, I was literally in line to get in. The building looks like an old converted house a real beautiful site this early in the morning.
As I approached the entrance I smelled it.. the cooking that unlocked a happy memory, I sat alone so I wouldn't distract the other patrons, and also so I could get a better view. And there it was a painting of an Aztec chief. My friend's mom was a descendant of the Aztec's a native San Antonian.
Native American art also reminded me of my Great Grand mother, the daughter of a Comanche Squwa.
But it was the atmosphere, I really found it hard to leave. I wanted to stay so much longer. But I knew that my visit, like the beautiful and flavorful pancakes I ate had to come to an end.
And I think I know why people flock here the food of course, but also a saying, a belief that the owner has displayed on the wall, a piece of art that says; "... if you want to bring happiness to the whole world go home and love your family..."
Mom your boy ate good. And finally found a surrogate home. It's not the real one, but a very close second...Thank you Judy, for feeding...
Read moreI am a regular customer. Have been spending my hard earned dollars at Judy's for 15+ years. I like to support small businesses. An incident happened the other day and I have never been treated so rudely by the cashier Marivel. She obviously doesn't like being corrected when she is wrong. I guess being a regular customer makes no difference to her because she is not courteous in any way. She also thinks by saying "God bless you. Have a good day." Negates the fact that she was rude and all is fine, but doesn't bother to apologize. Shows she just makes the statement, just to say it. Judy's should have better & genuinely nice people working for them. And employees that should be apologetic when they make a mistake. If it is a language barrier then Judy's should get employees that understand what a customer is saying. Even though for the last few years I feel they are not consistent with their portions. I don't understand why with the amount of business that Judy's receives they can't be more generous with their serving size. Sometimes you get a decent amount or too little, but NEVER a really good amount. I have still continued to support Judy's. They do seem to charge too much for items that should be a little less expensive. All in all the food is good but for the amount of money that is being charged a customer would expect to have a good experience all around. Not be mistreated by the cashier. After this incident I don't know if I will continue to be regular customer. The owner doesn't seem to care if she loses customers because she was standing right next to the rude cashier. There are so many great choices in SA that I can go spend my money where I get great quality food, bigger portions and kindness from...
Read moreso first off why on their menus it shows photos of orange rice & i ordered the enchilada kids plate and its some white rice.. it tasted nothing like authentic mexican rice. i just didnt like their enchiladas at all either. my boyfriend got the egg with papas & asked for medium well eggs and got easy eggs , the yolk was very watery & his papas had this nasty flavorless salsa on top of them. the papas were soggy , not crispy at all like every other mexican restaurant we have been to. we asked for a refund , we only had taking one bite of everything on our plates and explained nicely that we didnt like how the food tasted and came out. the manager with glasses made us explain everything that was wrong with it , what we didnt like about it and proceeded to tell us he wont give us a refund, just 50% off.. well okay then we couldnt eat after that pos we just spent our money on lunch.. & also said the egg was medium well egg , acting like my bf didnt make eggs at ihop for 2 years… & only gotten two complaints about how...
