Comforting Vibes and Nostalgic Delights at Ladybird Beer Garden
My wife, our 1.5-year-old son, and I had the pleasure of dining at Ladybird Beer Garden, a fairly new restaurant located on Hildebrand Road, not too far from other notable San Antonio staples like Chris Madrids and Mr. Juicy.
As we pulled up, the vibrant ambiance immediately caught our attention. An awesome mural adorned the exterior, and upon entering, we were greeted by cool neon artwork and a wrap-around bar with an impressive selection of beers. The patio, resembling a cozy alleyway, featured picnic tables and covered shades, making it a kid-friendly space. We loved that they had games like Jenga to keep little ones entertained. Additionally, the black and white painted pattern wall and cactuses and succulents on each table added a touch of charm.
We visited during brunch hours and were delighted by the expanded menu, which made it challenging to decide what to order. It's worth mentioning that while the restaurant is family-friendly, there weren't many food options specifically tailored for kids. Nevertheless, the staff was friendly and welcoming, taking our orders at the bar and offering helpful recommendations.
I decided to try the churro dogs with duck fat fries. They reminded me of those frozen breakfast sausage pancake corn dogs, but the churro dough elevated the flavors to a whole new level. My wife opted for the Buffalo chicken sandwich, which came with fried chicken, Buffalo aioli, lettuce, tomato, pickles, and fried onions.
The backyard patio was a great space, and our son had a blast exploring everything and being his usual energetic self. When the fans weren't turned on, I politely asked the staff, and they gladly obliged, making the experience even more enjoyable.
While the lack of food options specifically for kids was a minor drawback, we appreciated the small kids picnic table outside. It was a bit wobbly, but the thoughtfulness behind it was evident.
The menu designs and branding showcased creativity and added to the overall atmosphere. On a cooler day, we'd enjoy the patio even more, but that's just a matter of the Texas heat, and not something the restaurant can control.
For drinks, I ordered the Electric Jellyfish IPA on tap, while my wife tried the Poison Ivy frozen drink. She described it as tasting like candy, bringing back nostalgic memories.
In terms of pricing, Ladybird Beer Garden aligns well with what you'd expect at a trendy and casual bar, slightly on the elevated side but matched our expectations.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly give my stamp of approval to Ladybird Beer Garden. It strikes a fine balance between family-friendly and adult-friendly, catering to different audiences. The comforting vibes and nostalgic flavors of the food left a positive impression, and we'd gladly return...
Read moreCame here with a group of friends on a Friday night, with perhaps higher than reasonable expectations.
First hint of trouble is when we had to cycle though several beer options in order to find one that wasn't out. Along with my drink order (a beer and a cocktail) ordered the fish & chips and a chicken nacho, one of my friends placed an order as well.
Fast forward 20+ minutes later and the first group of food orders trickled out (mind you this place was NOT busy, never should have taken that long for bar food) and the $16 fish and chips a friend got had 2 well cooked pieces of fish....and a bag of Cheetos. Because "we're out of french fries". 20+ min later another round of food came out, some chicken sandwiches with tater tots. The server was asked why this dish came with tater tots, and the fish and chips was served with a snack bag of Cheetos. "oh, its because we're out of french fries". We were all left confused as to why the kitchen wasn't just substituting tots for fries, and had to order a basket of tots by itself....
At this point we are now 45+ min from my order of fish & chips and nachos and nothing has show up. I go up and ask about it, and they said they would check. TEN MINUTES LATER they come back to tell me they have no record of my food order, and if I still wanted it. I said yes. TEN MINUTES LATER they come back and say 'sorry we are out of fish". I decline to order anything further. TEN MINUTES LATER, 30 minutes after I ordered chicken nachos, the finally show up. At this point there is maybe 20-25 people in the whole bar and nobody is eating, so really not sure what is going on in the kitchen OR be hind the bar, aside from the staff congregating together to talk.
Cant even begin to understand why this place was out of so many drink and food options on a Friday. And pretty upset that despite the bar not being busy, there was no effort to expedite anything.
Ill hold back from saying 'This place sucks"...but none of us were inspired to...
Read moreThe food is OK. It's not worth the price, too. And don't use your card there. They may take out an extra tip the next day. When I was there they didn't show good customer service skills. I know one of the bartenders said the ac went out, so it was hot all day. But still, I had nothing to do with that, so I expected a little service . I got the beast burger for me n the grill cheese sandwich n fries for my lady. Before leaving, I ordered 20 pc wings. Totaling to 70 bucks, no drinks, not even soda or water. So you be the judge on the price. Beast burger is not big. I wanted Mr. Juicy, but they weren't open(burgers better n cheaper). I tried to order a drink after talking to the bartender bout different drinks they had n what she could make. She ended up saying she could make me whatever, so we made up a drink, and she said it was coming right up. Well, after watching her do a whole bunch of other stuff and tend to different customers. Mind you, I'm sitting at the bar, right in front of her. 15-20mins later, she said "O I forgot to make your drink. Do you still want it?" I told her, "Don't worry about it." We got our order shortly after that and ordered the wings to go. It was 79cent wing day. Got 20. When we ordered, I had my card out to pay for the wings. Asked my lady if we paid, and she said yes. The next day, I looked at my account and realized they didn't charge me. So I figured it would just show up late. But later that night after midnight. The transaction changed from 30 bucks to 70bucks. So I guess I paid 40 bucks for 20, 79cent dry wings. Smh. Maybe it was just a bad night. But I don't think I'll be back. If I do I'll remember...
