Ok, let me start by saying I was NOT planning on stopping at Luby's. Actually, I had my GPS set to take me to Church's to get their 5$ meal. But as I was going I was looking around in case something just "sounded good". I was tired of Mexican all the time, burgers didn't sound good, chicken didn't even sound good. I wanted something hot though, I was tired of refrigerated stuff. I wanted something that tasted like "home". Then I saw Luby's! I never stopped before because it's a cafeteria style restaurant and that just reminded me of an "old person's" place. But wait, isn't grandma's cooking what I wanted? So I turned and parked in Luby's parking lot to see if they had a menu online. And they did! You're also able to opt in to texts and receive a 20% off code, which I did. Still though, nothing really sounded good. (Just one of those days ya know...) So I checked restaurants near me and NONE of those sounded good either! Well, I had 20% off, might as well try Luby's. I started to go through the drive thru, but really, NONE of the sides sounded good. I wanted steamed veggies and it wasn't on the menu. So I go to leave and then last minute decided I would walk in just to check it out.
The building is very well kept š, and as you might expect, lots of old people coming and going. (That's OK, I love old people.) There's lots of workers working the line and people getting their food. Off to the side is where you go for carry out. So that's where I go. Amy greeted me right away and seemed super friendly! The guy working drive thru also had a smile on his face and they seemed to be having a good time. I asked their opinion between chicken fried chicken and chopped Angus steak. I settled on the Angus steak because it had fewer calories. Amy let me know about a couple sides they had that wasn't listed. Squash and long green beans. Yes! They had veggies I was looking for! So I got those sides and jalapeƱo cornbread. And then, I saw IT. A cup of something that looked really good in a container with whipped topping and cinnamon and a lil cookie piece on top. Amy got it out and showed me and pointed out the raisins that were in it. It was rice pudding. I normally don't like rice pudding but it looked SO good and at only 1.99$ I just had to get it.
Amy quickly got my order together and put everything I would need in the bag including 2 butters, which I was grateful for because I like smothering butter on my cornbread.
Finally I got home, I can eat now. Everything was DELICIOUS! And the servings were a good size. The meat was tender. The juice on top was perfect. Loved the squash and green beans. And the rice pudding...oh my goodness! The rice pudding was amazing!
I'm super happy I stopped at this Luby's and will definitely return to try some other plates.
Luby's, if you read this, give Amy...

I was in line 15 min before one car even moved!! then another 15 mins and then another car moved! I sat in the drive through for over 50 mins and never even had a chance to order!! I knew driving up that its the first Friday of lent and there will be a small wait but seriously 50 minutes!!! I saw babes across the street and called and order a fish sandwich and by the time I got out of line went through the red light and parked at babes (across the street from Lubys!) i walked in and my order was just coming out and it was ready to go..Im not sure whats going on in the drive thru but this is not the first time ive waited my whole lunch break in line! Love the food and the service is always on point so im definitely not blaming the staff this is a serious managerial problem! If you know that its Lenten season and your expecting a lot of customers then your drive thru should be staffed properly and food should be being made all throughout the day!!! Im unfortunately taking Lubys off my list which sucks since they have the best homemade food! Sorry Lubys YOU GUYS GOTTA...
