I don't usually have to leave bad reviews.
I wish I could've left no stars this time.
I haven't gone to Pei Wei in a while.
It used to be one of my kid's and my favorite places to eat some quick and great tasting Chinese food.
However, while the menu appears to be the same as it was the last time, the food is not and the "restaurant" isn't either.
It started with a young man who took our order, who in the name of efficiency, spoke very fast, like a robot, under his breath, looking down at the register, while he did all of this.
I had to ask him several times, to repeat his questions, as they were barely audible and the words couldn't be understood, oh, and I have perfect hearing and the restaurant wasn't loud.
I should've known that something was not right, as we were used to going to eat there, and there usually was barely a place to sit and also a customary line.
This time, we were the only people in line, and there were about three tables that were occupied by customers.
We received our receipt, went to sit down, as we walked towards our usual seat, we noticed that the rear wall decor had been changed.
They had taken away the great Coke soda machine that they used to have, and removed all of the hot sauce jars that they used to have, which customers could take to the tables.
They also got rid of the metal silverware, and the tables and seats were covered in food droppings, crumbs, and greasy residue.
We wiped down the seats and table, as best as one can, with a dry napkin.
We received our food quickly, in to-go containers.
They had apparently gotten rid of their beautiful stoneware, and opted to use one time use plastic and cardboard containers. A perfect choice for the environment.
The portions now are much smaller.
I used to eat half of the food I ordered and used to have to take the rest home for later, as the portions were substantial.
The food was thrown into my kid's cardboard container without care, as all of the flaps were dirty and they couldn't be folded down without getting one's hands dirty.
We ordered an appetizer, which was awesomely contaminated by someone throwing two sauce packets into the food container, touching the food, (so whatever dirt was in the box containing the packets and the person putting them into the to go container must've also used his or her hands and so got the packets dirty that way as well).
Now, the food I received was bland and mediocre at best. It tasted like Chinese food, that any individual could've cooked at home, who had never cooked Chinese before.
I have eaten better Chinese food from the HEB frozen food section.
So next time my kid and I feel like eating Pei Wei, we will stay the Hey Away from Pei Wei.
P.S.: The front door does not close, so it allows flies into the "restaurant" at...
Read moreI come here fairly often, and the food is always great. Its always fresh. I order the same thing every time I come, Thai Dynamite with Extra Chicken and Brown rice, well, came in today and the wrong order was entered into the system. Normally, I wouldn't care and be fine with waiting a few extra minutes because I know mistakes happen but the fact that management (maybe assistant mng, wears a high bun, eyeliner, and dangly earnings) decided to let me know that any mistakes were MY FAULT and had an unbelievably nasty attitude with me was ridiculous. The order was Beef and Broccoli on top of noodles, i don't eat red meat, and have never ordered that a day in my life. Terrible customer service on her behalf. I have worked in the service industry, and no matter what, even if the order was my mistake which it definitely wasn't BC I had customizations on it, even had the confirmation email to prove it, a good server should always own up to their own mistakes. Then on top of that proceeded to talk about me with another employee in front of me, saying how awkward it is that that would happen and how its my fault that the order was wrong. What in the world?!?! I will continue to come to this Pei Wei because I really do enjoy the food and the atmosphere but if I will remember her face, and if she is ever to serve me again, I will ask for someone different. I have never been treated with such disrespect by a server in my entire life. I would hope this review causes for some serious advising on...
Read moreI came here and ordered the Spicy Tuna and Avocado salad. Since I had never ordered it before, I asked the cashier if he liked it. All he said was that it was one of the more popular items on the menu. That should have been a clue since he never directly answered if HE liked it or not, just redirected the answer. With tax it came just under $10.
When they brought out the salad, it had no avocado, so they brought some out to me and some more dressing for the salad because it was LOADED with a mix of vegetables. Once I started eating it, though, I noticed that I just didn't like the taste. You could tell that the greens and cucumbers and tomatoes were low quality and just really had no flavor, so I had to drench them in the dressing to even swallow them. The only redeeming quality of the dish was the spicy tuna which I started pairing with the avocado. I hate wasting food, so I ate the tuna and avocado and a few more bites of the salad and veggies but I was starting to feel so turned off from the food that I left almost 3/4 left of food on my plate and left (which I NEVER EVER do...I will either finish all my food or take the rest to go). The whole time I sat there I wondered how I could have paid $10 for this disaster. Now I regret signing up for their rewards program and will cancel and never come back to this sub-par...
