Overview: A dog-friendly hang-out with a comfortable atmosphere, a robust selection of beer, and mediocre, overly pricey food.
THE GOOD AND THE BAD:
GOOD: -Open-air bar. -Clean, open social atmosphere -Dog-Friendly -Great Beer Selection
BAD: -Over-priced - $11+ for a sausage/Hotdog in a bun -Service - it took 18mins to get order of two sausages. -Food - What I ordered was NOT great. ---Coleslaw: Mayonaisey, bland, watery, slightly warm ---Bratwurst in King's Hawaiian Sweet Bread Bun: Bratwurst, caramelized onions, and small portion of sauerkraut were fine. Sweet bun is TOO SWEET and ruins the tartness of a good Bratwurst with Kraut and Mustard. --- Soy-based Italian Sausage - very odd flavor. Not terrible, but not great either. --- Sweet Potato Fried - were crisp and fresh. ---Corndog - Actually, not bad. --- Hotdogs - What distinguishes theirs from a Nathan's hotdog are the toppings (and the sweet bread). But most of the toppings are pretty high-calorie, cream-based, and sweetish.
What I would like to see improved: -1. Optional fresh rolls that aren't sweet. Sweetened bread is not a good mix with most sausages and hot dogs. At least not for some people. There should be an option. -2. More variety of sausages. Maybe some Currywurst with Curry Ketchup sliced in a bowl. Nuerenbergers, Hungarian Bratwurst, Knockwurst, Weisswurst. -3. More tart varieties of hotdogs...maybe a bougie variation of the Chicago Dog? -4. A little lower on the price tag. -5. Better side options, including more traditional items. Sliced currywurst on a bed of...
Read moreWe decided to try something different than the usual. This place is hidden but I had seen it a few times taking the back roads to HEB. Everything is on hawaiian roll type bread. We tried Chili cheese fries - niece really liked them. Chili cheese dog - niece is picking about the dog but we ended up eating it for leftovers and it was good. Hot chicken sandwich - we got the grilled chicken. My niece actually liked it but she likes hot snacks. It's not as hot as I thought it was going to be and it was really good. It has good flavor and a tasty slaw. Burger with cheese slider - its salty but I like salt. I feel some would think too salty. I liked it! Downtown dog - Wrapped in bacon. I would have like to have tasted the bacon. It was good but from everything else we got this was at the bottom of the list. Chorizo brat - I didn't think I'd like it as much as I did. It had lots of good flavors and spicy! Definitely will get that for myself next time. I kept stealing pieces from my husband. Burger - husband got a burger with a fried egg and avacado. I didn't try it but he at it so fast I didn't get a chance to steal a piece haha. The place has lots of beer varieties and is showing sports on various tvs. Lots like it gets busy for weekend evenings. We will definitely...
Read moreSome things to note: the food is quite expensive, and unfortunately ours came out burnt. We didn’t ask for it to be remade, though. the restaurant is NOT finished, so be aware that there is no indoor seating, there are boxes around (beware if you use an assistive device, the pathways are quite narrow inside the location), all food is served to-go, but you can eat outside. they advertise that they are a Biergarten but because the restaurant is not finished, they are not currently serving beer.
Overall: service was great, though it was not quick, I’m assuming it was due to the lack of staff. it feels like this is a franchised location that was forced to open now. Looks like it’ll be a cool place to go once it’s finished, but it’s got a long way to go to get there.
We’ll probably be back once it’s completely finished but we felt as if they were open because someone somewhere needed to start turning a profit, first impressions be damned. Be nice to their employees, please, by the way. Several patrons were very rude about not being able to eat inside when there’s boxes everywhere and there’s clearly work to be done, which is out of the worker’s control and is not on the worker but...
