Meh...just...meh! Let me try to help anyone out that's never been here...because the staff is not very helpful🙄
We wall into the place for the first time...there is no hostess or sign that says SEAT YOURSELF or ORDER AT COUNTER. The place was empty (it was around 3pm so understandable) there were two girls working standing by the drink area and another guy behind a counter where a bunch of meats are. Above the meat guy is a sign, on one side it lists the meats...and on the other it list three options Torta, Tacos (mini street tacos) and Quesadilla. NO PRICES ARE LISTED ANYWHERE!
We ask one of the girls (because it's our first time here) are we supposed to sit or order at the counter, she just kinda motions to the counter...we ask what are your prices (because it's nice to know...duh🙄)...she proceeds to tell us that the Tacos are "around $7 something the Tortas are around $5 something and the Quesadillas are around $2 something". WHAT...you don't know your prices when you only have 3 damn prices to remember😳. Anyways...my wife and I order the Tortas and try to get the El Pastor...we're told they're all outta that (find out late from a little sign on the table that they only have the El Pastor on select days😕. So we order the Bisteka (basically Asada (chopped up thinly sliced beef) and the guy puts it together real quick right in front of us and we're like...I guess we get our own drinks now, so we grab our Tortas and go to get our drinks and the girl tells us to have a seat...we sit down and the girl takes our drink order (so the waitresses are there just to bring you a drink and pick up your trash I guess) she brings us our drinks and two syrup bottles of salsa.
The Bistec was MEH...it was cooked meat...nothing more, NO real flavor to it besides the raw onions and salsa we added.
So like I said...
Read moreI was really hungry, and craving some tacos, so my DIL who is Mexican and likes this place, brought me here. I'm not familiar with San Antonio, or which places are better or worse for tacos, but I trusted her. And while in line I got to talking with the ppl in front of me as to what they would suggest. I've got to say here that I've traveled pretty well through the interior of Mexico, on the back of a motorcycle, so I'm pretty familiar with the real taste of homegrown tacos. Good and bad. On the recommendation of my newfound friends, and my craving, I ordered tongue and "suadero", this last a sort of steamed mix of organ meats. Really good if done right. Well, maybe because I spoke too low volume (but I DID mime, while pointing at my tongue!), but I wasn't impressed by either order. Asks the tongue tacos weren't tongue. I almost spit out the first bite I took, actually, because for a hot minute I thought it might be overcooked chicken, which my system can't tolerate. Makes me deathly ill! I had to double check with my son, who tried it and said they nvr serve chicken there, but it was more likely pork. In which case, I could eat it, but it was woefully overcooked, and absolutely tasteless. And I'd been SO looking forward to eating something other than the navy beans and hot dogs I'd been having all week. Budget issues. 🥺 When you're on a fixed income, every penny is counted multiple times. Not spending my few pennies at this place again. Maybe they just confused my order, or they just thought, this lady is acting like she's not Latina (Some folks think that about me, but I wasn't raised by my Latina family, but my Italian step-family. Sue me!). Who knows, I don't care, I rarely get out of the house. I want to enjoy the...
Read moreFirst thing I thought was I hope the music isn't this loud when I go inside. It was loud inside. The staff didn't understand to speak louder than the music. Only one cook understood I could not hear him and spoke louder. I had to repeat myself multiple times with all interactions. This was annoying. First time visitors will wonder where the menu is. Their attempt at a menu is a listing of meat. That is it. A listing of meat. There are no prices listed anywhere. I wasn't upset when I paid, but it can be an issue for some. These meats are available as a taco, torta, or quesadilla. All meat is pre cooked before you walk in, so foodservice is fast. You give your order directly to the cooks who were friendly. I got 2 quesadillas decent portion size. The al pastor quesadillas tasted ok,but nothing special. The grilled whole jalapenos tasted bad. Like maybe sanitizer water was on them, didn't finish those. Prior to this there's never been a pepper I didn't like(habenero, ghost pepper, and carolina reaper included). I got an unsweet iced tea. It was good. Freshly brewed. I was slightly confused why they have a waitstaff, or didn't give me a ticket to pay the cashier at the end of my meal. Waitstaff quickly brought salsa and asked for my drink order when I sat down, but I had to request a fork? This restaurant serves Mexico street food in what looks like a full service restaurant. I have eaten many times at food trucks, I was expecting full service. Next time I'll just eat at...
